Very sad that the propellers are being removed, but at least they are being preserved.

I'm assuming they will remove PORT VILA from the stern, and not put it back.  Now that she's not a ship, they must be finished with that requirement surely.

I hope that they'll paint SOUTHAMPTON in again.  I don't see why they wouldn't do this.  Its a vital part of her history, and actually part of her hull!  The original team promised to do this, as soon as they didn't need the PORT VILA registry displayed.

They will require official permission but I don't see why getting that would be an issue. Queen Mary got official permission to keep Liverpool on her stern even though she isn't registered anywhere. SS Rotterdam was re-registered back to Rotterdam from Nassau in the Bahamas I believe and is officially registered despite also being a building to all intents and purposes. We will have to see with QE2 - I've hoped it will return for a long time now (as in being repainted)!

First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

During her grey period. I'd like to see her with Southampton showing up again.

Thank you for the information Louis, sad but inevitable given her new role.

I leave the country for 5 minutes (alright 5 weeks) & look what you've done, it's all broken, bits lying around the dockside (props) ready to join the bits already removed  & scattered around the access roads (boats).
Remind me never ever to leave again,         I earnestly hope the old girl has a happy new lease of life, she's waited long enough. Good luck QE2   ----   off to read all about it

See attached from 2009.  The newly polished propellers disappear under the dry dock waters, as the ship prepares to sail to Cape Town in a blaze of publicity...
