Likely for continued use if reasonably heavy items need to be brought aboard, saves them having to use a mobile crane on the dockside due to there not being any other dockside cranes at her permanent home. Makes sense.

As in an eagerness to get moving? Now you mention it it's very noticeable alongside her sleekness of course. She's always looked as if she's moving forwards in a way or has purpose, with the signal mast shape and the bridge window's angle to dissipate the spray/waves, again hard to describe.

She really is scrubbing up well, looking very vibrant with the new paint!! The mast looks like it’s having a decent overhaul too with all the scaffolding.

Noticed that too, maybe we'll hear her unique voice again?

I wonder what will be painted on her stern? Southampton? Dubai? Port Vila? A combination? Or just her name?

I shall be interested to see :) . And I would see some justification in any, or several, of the three names. I would just hope that, if Dubai, the painters would be given a better location to paint the name of that name.

I know the answer but can't say it yet :)

At the risk of offending the 'let's move on 'Gods, I don't agree with the welding up or Removal of Anything,
everything taken away leaves the whole a lesser thing, in other words QE2 becomes less & less QE2,
 a sort of facsimilie.
That's my opinion , we all have our own, at least, she's had a dry docking, poor old Queen Mary didn't, & look at what's happening to her now.
Don't get me wrong , I wish & earnestly hope that QE2 Hotel has a real successful career, it has been toooo long coming, to the victor belong the spoils as they say, this is your turn Dubai , you'd better do it well!!

I realise I'm one of those let's move on people in some ways, but some of the reasons for welding shut, sealing off etc and removing different parts of her is so she can be around for longer in her new role. The removal of the propellers and sealing the shafts will reduce the risk of flooding over many years and all that goes with that for example (shafts being known to leak sometimes on any ship).

However, I do agree in regards to superstructure alterations such as removing the galley "box" to try and return her to original appearance - in my opinion if they do things like that without going the full way to returning her to original appearance she'll just be left as a facsimile of what she was and what she ended up like at the end of her career with Cunard. Something I'm strongly against, and am relieved Dubai have been mostly sympathetic in that regard. This is not even getting to the original 2009 plans that will hopefully never happen either in the long term (they made my blood boil).

The phrase that came to my mind this week was "stuffed and mounted".  While i understand what they're doing and why, it's still emotional to those who knew her.   The idea that she just might sail again one day, even if it's an infinitesimally small chance, is something as a young boy i knew i hung onto.  I was distraught when i found out Queen Mary had been disembowelled.

Yes, I find it poignant and it has a "finality" to it as well as a former passenger and as my favourite ship since a young child. This is partly why I'd find a visit surreal too. Although her sailing days ended years ago from a regulations point of view alone.
