Rupert Ballantyne's photo of the Double Down Room Bar taken in the early 1980's.  As Rob has mentioned this was removed in 1987 and replaced by the Yacht Club.

The chairs in the photo above were taken from the Queens Grill when that we redecorated.

Here is the Double Down Room in 1969 (with Double Room chairs in blue instead of red!)

Interesting to see the changes from 1969 to the early 80's

The Double Down Bar/original Yacht Club had been removed by the time I sailed as a passenger in 1997.  See these photos, plus reading Michael's Project Lifestyle notes of the 1994 refit when a prefabricated unit was installed to create the new Yacht Club that I remember from 1997.

Does anyone have a deck plan that shows the Double Down Bar?

Whenever l see the glass Piano lm forever reminded of the outward Maiden Voyage in 1987 of Dear Arline Daniels singing her heart out in the evenings in the Yacht Club. I personally never liked the club at that stage, the actual bar if l remember was pretty small but looked after by a tall good-looking Swedish/ German (?) guy. Some of us might say that was the only reason worth going to the club in those days
The vibration was another matter.

It was always a shame that leaving the lift at G stairway to go to the Yacht club was such a dark area , and only the narrow entrance of light going into the Yacht Club.

Myles, I’m pretty sure you are talking about Hakan Cronqvist, who incidentally is on Facebook and keeps in contact with his fellow crew members should you want to say hello.

The only other person that I can think of that matches your description who worked the old Yacht Club bar would be Herbert Schotzler. Tall guy to the left in the photo. With the exception of Brian Workman who ran the Midships Bar, all the others in the photo are British.
