She's at one of Damen Ship Repair's yards - the one in Brest, France specifically. Interestingly, this is the first time she's been drydocked in France since her construction if I'm not mistaken.

Didn't know they entered the cruiseship sector, they did buy some of the shipyards in The Netherlands that didn't go bankrupt. Still family run from what I remember. Shipyards that they did purchase here are De Schelde which for example build Willem Ruys.


She stayed on her slipway (close to the city center almost becoming a landmark) for almost seven years due to the war taking place, she provided drinking water to the town for a few weeks. Also in 1944 some of the dikes where hit during a bombardement and her lifeboats where used in the rescue operation.

Do we have any idea of the work performed for this refit. It seems to be a closely guarded secret so far.
Now that The USA is about to open up, can we expect to see some late additions to the Crossings ?

Does anyone know whether the balconies floorings on Decks 8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 are real or fake teak?

While it is clear that the large rear facing appartments have teak terraces/balconies, I read in Stephen Payne’s Haynes manual (page 143) that the Penthouses Suites on Deck 10 also connect to a teak balcony.

However, other sources mention a surrogate teak flooring substance, notably on the new Deck 13 staterooms installed in 2016.

Could it be a mix of both depending on which deck?

We've had two standard balcony cabins on deck 11, and both were the rubbery-plastic stuff.  It's also used for the area around the spare propellers if memory serves.

So far the only staterooms I have experienced were on Decks 4, 5 and 6, whose floorings are indeed rubbery-plastic, too. You're right, the forward "propeller blade deck" is not teak either.

Could it be that only a few suites on Deck 10, 11, 12 have real teck on the balconies?

Personally I doubt it, I would think plastic surrogate is better in terms of weight... and probably cost.

Re Rob's post #13 today, I found my photos of the 'Captain's Cufflinks', but it is very hard to determine the deck material.
But if it is genuine teak, then the planks are normally wider so as to require fewer planks for the job, and the tar sealing strips are normally wider as well. These ones are too uniform to be the real thing.

Also have to admit, it is not very often an engineer goes around taking photos of the upper decks unless they are badly split, rusted away, or in need of some TLC!
