Passionate about QE2's service life for 40 years and creator of this website.  I have worked in IT for 28 years and created my personal QE2 website in 1994.

I was at the launch. My uncle was a draughtsman who worked at John Browns when the QE2 was being built and he got us tickets. One of the most amazing experiences of my life as I watched her slip into the sea. I thought how amazing it would be to sail on her but thought I would never do it. As it turned out I did - 34 times! I loved every single minute of it - sad she isn't with us any more but very happy memories.

Launch photo

It must have been such a huge and spectacular event – I cannot imagine that a float-out would ever have the same sense of drama. At the same time, presumably a float-out is much easier on the ship's hull than this kind of beautiful launch.

This is a photo of a picture my friend gave me as a birthday present a few years ago.  Can you spot the little addition to the picture.   :)

Happy New year everybody.   There are 12 lovely images of the launch (& docking?) in this social history site, you don't have to page far down to find , but they are scattered , & not in order, the paddle steamer has a fair old list . They can be expanded , but my Adobe crashes whilst trying :(  Maybe our Scottish members know a few folk in these old photos?

In addition to the QE2 photos this is a really interesting selection of social history photos.  I like the photo taken from the PS Caledonia at the launch of the QE2.  You can almost see the PS listing to the side as the passengers crowd to one side to see QE2.
