Stunning photos of QE2 at sea taken on 12 April 2005
« on: Aug 16, 2011, 08:06 PM »
Cunard were in need of updated aerial photography and footage of QE2 so a helicopter was hired to capture QE2 at speed off the coast of Spain on 12 April 2005. QE2 had left Barcelona the day before and would arrive in Malaga the following day - on the last leg of her 2005 World Cruise. The shoot took place late in the afternoon when the decks would be relatively clear of passengers - in order to get the ship with tidy rows of deck chairs! QE2 was making up to 29 knots and she was made to turn quite dramatically for the camera. The sunset is real, not photo-shopped. Only a few of the images taken were used in brochures, most of the shots here have never been seen before.

Oh, Flagship!

YOU ARE A STAR!

THANK YOU VERY, VERY MUCH.

From an extra-grateful me!

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Stunning, simply stunning photos of dear QE2, but then the camera only takes what it sees

Now what about we try and figure out where some of these photos were used in promotions, posters or whatever... No prizes, just good old fashioned fun. :D

Thanks for posting them !!
Any idea how many photos were taken in general during the shoot?

Absolutely stunning photos!  You could do a calendar on these photos alone!  I am doubtful, though, that she was doing 29 knots in these photos, especially for the dramatic turn, which would have generated quite a list to the ship and no doubt a degree of panic amongst passengers unaware of the reason for the list.  There is very little stern or bow wave to speak of, which would be present even if the seas are calm.  Regardless of the actual speed, these photos show the ship at her best.

Absolutely stunning, stunning photos of QE2 in her element, at speed, in the sunshine.

The full quality photo that is used on the calendar cover, is full of so many interesting things going on, if you look closely...

I love aerial photos of ships - that one where she is hard to port is amazing!

Wouldnt mind having a big poster made of that one.

Thanks for posting Flagship.

Can you imagine if Cunard had the wisdom to produce them into a calendar for the final year of QE2s service, the sales along would have been mind blowing, and could well have saved QE2 from being sold..LOL

The one overhead shot was produced into a large photo/poster which was on sale during the farewell voyages. Sadly they didnt include any tubes to protect them, and mine has various creases  :(  that alone casued a few moans at the photo shop among passengers.

Thanks to June for reminding us about this topic where Michael Gallagher had posted some fantastic QE2 photos that we would not otherwise have seen.   :)

Some can also be found in the little tribute book "QE2 forever", published in 2008.
