September 2022 : QE2 and her friend(s)

This month, September being QE2's launch anniversary, we have decided on a very special photo competition, which we hope will bring a great number of your photos here.

The theme for this month's photo competition is "QE2 and her friend(s)".

We want to make the theme as broad as possible, so it is your own choice as to who or what constitutes a "friend" of QE2 (and you would of course be right each time) : these could be crew, other people in the photo, tugs, other ships, etc. -- whatever comes to mind. QE2 must be recognisable (interior or exterior), but otherwise there are no limits.

Photos must be taken during QE2's service life, from within the ship, on deck or from shoreside. 

Photos entered should be your own, or if not, please post them with permission of the photographer, mentioning the name for copyright reasons, and so that the owner can win the prize!

Enjoy the search! It is bound to bring many happy memories .


The prize this month is the the photo book with the prizewinning photos of our competitions since the beginning, prepared by Lynda Bradford.


How to enter

The album is open -- so now is the time to look for your three most interesting pictures on this theme. Wishing you happy memories as you search your photo collection to find up to three pictures to upload to the competition album.

Your description should if possible give some information about the location of the ship when the photo was taken, and the year.

If you have not uploaded photos to the Forum Gallery before, have a look at these instructions, and if you have any problems or would like us to move a photo from the Gallery into the competition, just contact us on admin@theqe2story.com.

If it helps, you could email the photos to the above address, and we shall gladly upload them for you.

The deadline for submitting photos is 30 September 2022. Voting will run from 1 October 2022 until 1 November 2022, until everyone's time zone has caught up with the closing date.

This is the final month of photos for the 2023 calendar. Maybe your photo will figure there!

I have used some lateral thinking, and submitted 3 from 15 years ago give or take a few days.

Only a few days left to enter your photos for the September competition QE2 and her friends (s). 

A wee bit disappointing that only 7 people have entered photos to date. But it could be  that with such a wide theme it is difficult to choose only three photos.

The prize is the Photo Book of Competition Winners 2011 to 2021 which is only awarded as a prize - it cannot be purchased.  (see album )

Deadline Extended

Good news the deadline for the September photo competition has been extended to Monday 3 October to give members a little more time to upload their three best photos that meet the theme.

  A wee bit disappointing that only 7 people have entered photos to date. But it could be  that with such a wide theme it is difficult to choose only three photos.

It is a very wide theme to choose from, so perhaps as you say we may have too much choice. But in saying that it is up to the individual how we interperate the subject heading, and that can be where the fun begins.
