Today 9 years ago QE2 arrived in Dubai....

What are your thoughts about her situation over these last 9 years?

After our QE2's arrival in Dubai amid great celebration by Dubai, our lady's situation went from bad to worse through no fault of her own.  Goodness knows, she deserved a lot better than she received during the first seven years or so.

But, she was not sold, and things now look promising (hopefully) for our beloved QE2. If 2017 is the start of a new chapter for QE2, a toast is in order - The Queen !

Thanks very much, Louis, for keeping us up to date on the situation of our QE2 !  :)

My thoughts from the past 9 years are that the ship was taken care of greatly by her V-Ships for her first couple years. These last few years have been tough for our majestic vessel.

But like June said, things are looking up for the ship and I am looking forward to seeing what the ship has in store for us in the not too distant future.

After 9 years, amazingly we're in the same position as when i started this site a month or so after her arrival - battling a veil of secrecy, grabbing whatever photos sneak out, and wondering what's coming next.  Lots has happened in the 9 years but it still feels the same to me!

I'm still just observing, and waiting to see what happens.
Passionate about QE2's service life for 40 years and creator of this website.  I have worked in IT for 28 years and created my personal QE2 website in 1994.

Having past the 9-year mark I go went to all the old news topic of the forum that I could find, and just been amazed how long ago certain past things have happened, somehow the last 9-years have gone by very fast. With the 10th year coming up it is strange looking back where I was as a person, and see how quickly I have developed into my current life and position.

Lets hope when the renovations/refit is complete in the next coming month there are many many happy years ahead for the QE2, many more then we have watched here lingering on.

The initial warm lay-up gave a sense of hope that something really positive could happen.
When the engines were finally shut down and the years of silence followed, it felt all was lost.
In the last few months it looks as though the hotel plans will come to fruition and give the old Lady a new lease of life.

But why all the secrecy? Absolutely no need for it. They could have got themselves a lot more sympathetic support if they engaged publicly rather than the veil of secrecy they seem to think will give more impact to the final reveal.

We'll see!

It'll take an almighty advertising splurge to get her noticed again, she's been all but forgotten, hope they know who to target..

Pete, exactly.

if they had been forthcoming with news, everyone would be waiting in anticipation.
Now it will be QE Who?

Perhaps they want to keep the ship for the rich locals who wouldn't have known QE2 in any case, so it doesn't matter.

QE2 is still very well known around the world - as to be expected - even amongst Joe Public that has seen the sea and ships. Also things appear to be done very differently in Dubai from a cultural aspect.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Makes you wonder who they will be aiming their customer base at ? Can we really see it being ex QE2 passengers , bitching and moaning at the onboard change of carpets transformation :)
