Transatlantic crossing 1974
« on: Jan 27, 2022, 10:11 PM »
Hello everyone. I crossed the Atlantic from znew York City to Southampton in 1974 as a child of 7. I remember it so well. The fancy dress competition in which my sister and I can third.  The children's tea party in the First Class longe when we were lucky enough to see the SS France on her final transatlantic voyage. Leaving NYC at night and passing by the Statue of Liberty.  Watching Woody Woodpecker cartoons in the kiddies club. So many amazing memories. Here's a photo of me and my family in the Brittania Restaurant.  And one of the kiddies playgroup (I'm in the yellow stripey jumper on the back row!

Welcome onboard, Sarah! Those look like fascinating memories, and great that you have some photos to go along with them.

Can you remember what you first noticed about the ship as such?

Welcome to the forum Sarah and thanks for sharing your photos.  I especially like the photo of the children in the Creche and wonder where all the children are now and if they still remember the voyage on the QE2.

Forum member Bob C also cruised on QE2 when he was a child in 1969, 1972, 1974 and has posted his memories and photos of the Children's Room, Creche and Cinema, which will bring back memories.

Do you know the date of the voyage?
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Welcome Sarah.  Do you remember the dates you went in 1974?  I didn't see me or my brothers and sisters in the photo you shared but we may have been on the same voyage.  We went in July of 1974 and I would have been 11 then.
