Mauretania Restaurant Menus 1995
« on: Sep 17, 2021, 07:27 PM »
George C. Griffiths is generously sending to me a set of menus from The Mauretania Restaurant.

We are putting together a table. I believe it will be the Chief Engineer's Table.

Who would like to join us and be ready to order our gastronomic delights once the menus arrive.

Maurice and Wilder are ready !   :)

Thanks June, I would be pleased to join the table and hope we have some new dinner companions as well as a return of our previous dinner guests.

On the Final westbound on the Chief Engineers table  we had the lovely Randy serving us, you can imagine the fun l had with his name and his colleague, both lovely guys who had us pretty sized up from day one. The photo of the other guy also includes Basil from The Captains Table , on the days Basil was serving in the pub at lunch, it was affectionally known as Basils Bistro

A couple of pics from the homeward crossing on the same table , and a different waiter and some of our attentive hosts,The banter was great on that crossing and  it was a lively table , The Cocktail party we were relegated to the Pavilion, but the young hosts did take time to look after us oldies, Chris (easyjet cabin crew) and myself were chuffed to be bought drinks by the  very young hosts in the Pub after dinner. we had originally thought it might be nice to return the favor and buy them some drinks, but they were having none of that and bought all the drinks.  l think everyone's memories that night are pretty vague, but after my "discussions" with the host , l got my Cunard boilersuit later on and that topic is really best left here.   When you get the chance to dine with the crew its a most marvelous fun interesting experience. But boy can those guys drink.

I am very glad to see that we are gathering up a table. It can be a very large table, so I hope others will join us.

Our menus are from 1995, and we will be able to see some of the wine prices from that time. It also seems that in some instances, there are more selections from which to choose for each course.

There are also some very delicious sounding vegetarian dishes !

And when we start on our voyage, I will share photos of some of the goodies which George sent to me in the package of menus.

Anyone hungry yet ?  :)

Lemon Mayonnaise Apple salad and toasted Black Bread, now what is that ?
Chilled Blueberry soup

And Dessert The Exotic fruit salad
By my thinking that's a lot of fruit so we are off to a healthy start

Hello, and good to be back dining together again! There are more chairs waiting, so do join us if you feel a bit (or a lot) peckish :) .

Lovely menu cover, and lots of great choices.

I shall go for...

the fresh tomato soup (always a favourite)
poached seafood florentine
crême brûlée topped with a cassonnade

I seem to have gone for the rich food... :) .

Black bread is presumably Pumpernickel...

For sinner, I would like please :

Tonight l will go with the Chefs suggested menu but rather than have the trout l will have the fresh fruit, Im not really big on fish of any kind .
But the Turkey will as always be delicious, and l rarely could turn it down
and the Flambe ,well if the ladies are having it, then perhaps there might be one left over , Rather like Baked Alaska it never really counted as dessert and l always managed to get the table to have a proper dessert.
