The theme for the April Competition, "QE2 in Norway" was chosen by Pete Hamill the winner of the October 2020 competition.

Thank you to everyone who submitted pictures, which we really appreciate. We hope that you enjoy choosing and voting for your 3 favourites.  This is the seventh competition of the new "calendar" year, with winning and runner-up photos going towards the 2022 QE2 Story Calendar.

The prize this month is a choice of either one year membership to The Steamship Historical Society of America (SSHSA), donated by June Ingram.

Or a jigsaw of the prizewinning picture . This option may not be available during periods of Covid restrictions. also offered by June Ingram.

Forum members should note that photos entered must be your own,  if not, please mention the name of the photographer for copyright reasons, and so that the owner can win the prize and be credited in the Calendar!

Voting is easy, but you need to be registered as a Forum member and log into the Forum to vote.  Whether or not you have submitted photos, please support those who have participated, by choosing your 3 favourite ones, noting the details, then tick the relevant boxes on the poll.  If you have entered photos, please do not vote for your own pictures.

To make it easier for you, we have posted the pictures below. However, you can also view the photos by clicking the Gallery Album, "QE2 in Norway", where you can see them all at once, in thumbnail form, plus you can view larger versions of the pictures by clicking on the photos to see medium size, and clicking once more to see them in large size.

You will not see the results of the vote until the poll has closed on 1 June 2021, after all time zones have had a chance to catch up with the voting deadline.

Enjoy the variety in these photos and choose your favourites :) .

As always the choice is yours -- enjoy!

One of the benefits of setting up the poll for the photo competition is that I can take time to view all the wonderful pictures.  Doesn't make choosing my three favourites any easier but I can dream about the wonder of cruising Norway on QE2.

The poll is now open for the April competition - enjoy making your choice of your three favourite photos.

Another tricky choice!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Agreed.  Extremely tricky.

I've managed to vote anyway...

Please  tell me    on the copyright photo from Howard Paulman is that the so sad & ill fated Estonia car ferry in the background ?.
Got a story to tell following that disaster sometime.

That's a Silja Lines ferry (or would've been to start with) in Stavanger, one of their cruise ferries that was built in the 1980s. I'm not sure which one it is though without using Google and investigating further. However, one of Silja Line's cruise ferries was in contact with and involved with responding to Estonia's Mayday call - specifically Silja Europa - as one can hear in the publicly released radio transmissions from that awful incident.

Just realised the ferry in question seems to show up on our forum's QE2 webcam, potentially on the same date Howard Paulman took the photo given QE2's post-2004 refit configuration in his photo.

There are some gorgeous photos here, making me long for more than three votes!

If you have already voted for your three favourites, just come back again and enjoy them all over again -- they are such great reminders of some of the best cruises in QE2's life.

Still 16 voters ! There are a few days left to vote. There are so many difficulties world wide right now, that sometimes it is difficult to step back, take a deep breath, and regroup one's mindset. The photo competition is something that can be very useful to us. Log in, put your feet up with maybe a cuppa or glass of wine, and spend some quality time with our beloved favourite ship. Then cast your ballot for your three favourite photos. It is always a difficult choice with so many different, lovely photos, but I think we choose based on our own memories calling out to us. The weekend is a perfect time.   :)
