Very sad to hear that.

May Captain Perkins rest in peace and his family find consolation.

Very sad news - condolences to his family. He was our last captain on QE2 and QE2's last appointed captain with Cunard. He signed the last deck guide I used onboard during a signing outside the library and bookshop on Quarter Deck, something I've treasured and will continue to treasure for a lifetime.

First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Very sad.

He was also my last Captain (of QE2 in service).

I have some pics I'll post tomorrow.

Thoughts are with his family.

Sad.news indeed, I served with Captain David (Polly) Perkins on many occaisons, both as a Staff Captain and latterly as Captain.Througout this time he was always supportive of his Security Staff, especially as these were ever changing times for the Security side of the cruise industry. Like a lot of other Cunard contract Officers, he did time away from Cunard, in his case as Captain of Regal Princes where he certinly left his mark with the Princess crew, in a very positive way being far more approachable than they were used to!

My condolences to his family.

Thank you for letting us know. -

Captain Perkins showed us his QE2.
An extra special Captain - and if it's possible, please could someone convey our thoughts and prayers to his family. We knew his son, too - He will be much missed by the wide seafaring family too.
'Crossing The Bar' by Tennyson comes to mind.
Thank you, Captain Perkins

If I recall reading correctly here on the forum, Captain Perkins became captain of Artemis (ex Royal Princess and currently Phoenix Reisen's Artania) during the course of 2009, after commanding Oceana directly after QE2. I don't think he commanded another Cunard ship after QE2, but cannot confirm. It seems he had hoped to command QM2 from one interview filmed on QE2 during her final season. Unfortunately I cannot find that interview again on YouTube.
