Painting of QE2 - 40th Anniversary Cruise
« on: Nov 23, 2020, 01:20 PM »
Hi all,

This is my first post in the forum.

My dad, Michael Hepburn is an artist with a keen interest in maritime work, and one of his paintings depicts the QE2's 40th anniversary cruise on the River Clyde in 2007, from which he has had giclée prints and fine art cards made. An event which was much celebrated at the time. The cruise not the conversion to prints :) The full details can be viewed on this page of his website: hepburnfineart.co.uk/maritime/ocean-liners/qe2-40th-anniversary-cruise/.

To provide a little background on my dad; his work has been exhibited at The Royal Scottish Academy, The Royal Glasgow Institute of the Fine arts, The Pastel Society in London and a variety of other galleries throughout the UK. His work resides in a number of private collections; namely those of the McLean Museum, the late Sir Arnold Clark, Clydeport, Clyde Maritime Trust, Norman Godman, Cory Tugs, Clyde Shipping Tugs and Karlsen Shipping.

I've also included an image of the work to this post.

If you have any questions just let me know.

Regards,

Aaron.

I too love that painting. It is a beautiful scene, so well captured.

Was your father generally interested in ships?

Thanks Isabelle.

Yeah, he grew up in Greenock which has a strong shipbuilding history and tradition (not too far from where QE2 was built), and his dad took him out on the Paddle Steamers when he was younger. It remains his favourite subject matter and a lot of his works and commissions tend to be Maritime related. Most of them feature areas in and around the River Clyde.

Here's the link to the Maritime section of the website if you want to have a look at his wider works: hepburnfineart.co.uk/maritime/

Where are you from yourself?

Haha thanks Gav! There is a Greenock specific section if you haven't already seen it. It contains maritime works and a few landscapes: hepburnfineart.co.uk/greenock/
