Last Port of Call - 20 November 2008
« on: Nov 20, 2020, 08:20 AM »
12 years ago today QE2 made her final port of call before arriving in Dubai. An early arrival at Alexandria saw the Pyramid and Cairo shore excursions depart just after 0600 hours.

Alexandria was the final port departure for QE2 with passengers – the onboard atmosphere did change as it dawned on many that the next port would be the final port. QE2 gave three blasts of the whistle as she left – later than scheduled after having to wait for 13 Japanese passengers who were on a private tour. No announcement was made about the fact this was the last port departure with passengers. There were fireworks in the distance but few people on the dock due to heavy security.

All passengers received a note in the cabin saying they were welcome to keep the terry-cloth bath robes in the cabin and also the leather folder and if they needed an extra folder they should just ask their steward / stewardess.

Thank you, Michael and Rob. The poignancy does not diminish with the years, does it ?
