Urgent Looking for Crew Records :  We have received an email from a member of staff at the Merchant Navy Welfare Board, Southampton, asking if we have can help find a QE2 Crew list for those who served on QE2 when she went to the Falklands.

Any ideas where to access QE2 Crew Lists/Records

I really would have thought that Cunard would be the best place to start. Perhaps they have asked there and been knocked back, for whatever reason.
HOWEVER Given the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) Such things might not be so easy to come by.
Its also might beg the question Why, when you bring in the subject of Welfare these days, it does make you wonder given the circumstances is there a major lawsuit planned for some hidden agenda, or quite simply Welfare want to invite all who were there to a party..
It's one thing to ask about a member of staff, but the whole crew..
We are in strange times ,and what might seem a simple request....
Im sure if they asked on some of the Facebook forums they might gather more information than should be given out
But then who are we to sit and judge the if and whys
I know only too well some of the issues with GDPR and what starts off as an innocent request.

Thanks Myles for your thoughts on the matter.

My understanding from the communication is that in order to apply for help from Merchant Navy charity organisations, proof is required that the person was in the MN. The man is ill and urgently needs help, so the Welfare Officer is trying to find out where you can find his records of service and as she has been told he served on QE2, when the ship went to the Falklands, she wrote to admin.

I remember seeing a list of crew who were on QE2's final voyage to Dubai and wondered if there is a list for Falklands Service.

You would have imagined there would be some sort of list with such details for such a voyage.
In that case all the more reason to get in touch with Cunard and hope they can put a rush on it . But you would have expected the merchant Navy charity to know about these things ? They appear to be going round the houses.

I wonder why Cunard were able to do a passenger list for the Farewell voyage, but yet none were made for the crossings or Round UK voyage . It was quite surprising just how many were on board that you only found out about afterward.
I do remember in 1991 The World Club on one of their crossings issued a list of repeat passengers, It was only circulated to those on the list .

Away back in 1988 l was given from the Pursers Office a passenger list with cabin numbers printed out on the old style green and white tear and rip printer paper and l would hate to say how long it is .   At the time it made for interesting reading knowing where the celebs were and when / where they embarked or disembarked. I suppose flying them out and back allows less cabins to be out of revenue earning.

Its in a box somewhere, l should try and dig it out and take a couple of photos of it.

Lynda - Because of any restrictions due to the Data Protection laws and requirements for confidential purposes, mightn't it be best for the Merchant Navy WB to contact Cunard directly?
The chances are that there would definitely have been a manifest with entire crew details, however unless a request is formally made, (preferably by next of kin / a legal dept) it could be very difficult to access.

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.
