A staircase that summed up QE2. Elegant, stylish and the look of Luxury, well that's what l always saw whenever l saw this staircase .

D Stairway coming Down from UPPER DECK. Boat Deck didn't have that archway you see here. If those two people turned around and headed back up the stairs and turned left they'd be in the Golden Lion...

They're coming down this staircase section. The piece of artwork you see in Rob's photos is where the signage is in the image below.

Thank you!!

Now settle a second debate from last night please... Is that dark blue or black!  If it's blue, was it black somewhere else?

It's a very dark purple blue, rather like a deep velvet.  At least that's what it looks like on this computer.

Agree with Mike G.  Stairway D coming down from the Upper Deck on the starboard (right) side.

Wasn't part of the coverings on some of the walls a leather covering ?.
The carpet always seemed to feel slightly thicker underfoot as well.

From my US Navy experience , I think the material was "naugahyde" - a synthetic leather.  We used it on everything in the Navy - seat coverings, chair backs, bags, signs, etc.

Naugahyde was developed by U.S. Rubber in Naugatuck CT.

The wallcovering was a very dark blue/purple.

With all due respect, I beg to differ (which is a good thing about this forum - sharing of opinions).  I recall the walls as being black and a very elegant and stunning color contrast in Stairway D with the white if not just a bit off-white balusters.

As an aside, my Service Dress "Blue" uniforms in the Navy were definitely black (not even Navy blue) just as I remember the black stairway color.
