I just mentioned this on the Zoom chat.

Amazing photos - especially the third one.

The meeting has just ended! Christoph and I spoke for a couple more hours, sharing QE2 photos and memories, and Isabelle joined us briefly too :)
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

I very much enjoyed the time I spent on the call, 75 minutes flies by!  Fascinating photos, memories and nuggets of information.  I'm afraid that's all I can do after a full day's work sitting at the same desk though, but I wish I could stay on the call longer.

I squeezed in a quick demo of our Twitter page - next week I'm going to start the Zoom call earlier, in order to demonstrate a few of our gallery's features for those who are interested, and I'll send out an advance notice message about that.

Enjoyed the chat yesterday evening and was sorry to leave after just over an hour, but that is about the maximum length of time I am comfortable sitting at the computer.

There was so much of interest that members brought to the chat:

Thomas' father's QE2 newspaper cuttings, John's copies of the B&W QE2 launch photos presented to John Rannie, Rosie's childhood memory of a Cammell Laird launch day, when she had the honour of presenting flowers.  Information on the forum's Twitter page and seeing some of the fantastic QE2 photos that the page is finding.  It was interesting to see and discuss Bob's photo of the Britannia Figurehead in it's original setting in the Britannia Restaurant - remember we have a task to do to find out about the ship in the glass case that was just visible in the background.  But the best was Bob's 3D modelling of D Stairway brought back memories.  As mentioned I have posted on this topic the information sheet I had on sending emails from the ship in 1997
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Thank you, Lynda, for the update. Great to hear about all the topics discussed and shown on screen!

I was sorry to have missed the zoom. I have another regular one just an hour earlier, and I took a break before logging in again -- just in time to bid Thomas and Christoph a good night! So glad this is continuing -- so there will be another chance next week to join.

Sorry I missed everybody but I'm still having broadband connection troubles which I hope I can clear up for the next zoom meeting.
Stay safe and keep well.

It was interesting to see and discuss Bob's photo of the Britannia Figurehead in it's original setting in the Britannia Restaurant - remember we have a task to do to find out about the ship in the glass case that was just visible in the background.

I think I may have an answer to this mystery.  I think it could be the Britannia model.  The paddle-wheel humps can just be made out in the blurry photo but given the name of the restaurant was "Britannia", it makes sense for it to be that.  However, it seems to be not in a place of prominence for the restaurants namesake.  If you have any other thoughts, I've posted this topic for continued discussion here.
