Poll - Photo Competition April 2020: QE2 Upper Deck
« on: May 01, 2020, 07:11 PM »
The theme for the April Competition, "QE2 Upper Deck" was chosen by George C Griffiths.

Thank you to everyone who submitted pictures, which we really appreciate. We hope that you enjoy choosing and voting for your 3 favourites.  This is the eighth competition of the new "calendar" year with winning and runner up photos going towards the 2021 QE2 Calendar.

The prize this month is the Isle of Man special set of stamps depicting the Queen Victoria or a 500 or 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle of the prizewinning photo.

Voting is easy, but you need to be registered as a Forum member and log into the Forum to vote.  Whether or not you have submitted photos, please support those who have participated, by choosing your 3 favourite ones, noting the details, then tick the relevant box on the poll.  If you have entered photos please do not vote for your own pictures.

To make it easier for you, we have posted the pictures below, however you can also view the photos by clicking the Gallery Album, "QE2 Upper Deck ", where you can see them all at once, in thumbnail form, plus you can view larger versions of the pictures by clicking on the photo to see medium size, and click once more to see them in large size.

You will not see the results of the vote until the poll has closed on 1 June 2020 after all time zones have had a chance to catch up with the voting deadline.

I am sure you will agree that these photos help us remember the good times when we were on QE2.

As always the choice is yours - enjoy!

We seem to be stuck at 7 voters for the past few days. With the week-end coming, this may be a good time to take a leisurely look at these lovely contributions and select your favourite three.

Enjoy the memories!

I've voted, but thats just ridiculous - I wanted to select 10!

The one of the outside of the yacht club reminds me - again - about the lighting.  Look how clever it was, dimmed right down so you got the "going to the nightclub" atmosphere.  Virtually no overhead lighting at all - it draws you into the even darker night club.

The photos of the original interiors are, as usual, stunning.

The lido/magradome setup - looks nice with the top open - but to a 14 year old, that layout was just bonkers.  It confused me for years - I think its sad the 2nd pool was lost, but the revised layout after the Magradome was removed was so much better.  Look at the height difference from the top of Alpha down t the pool.

Love the funnel bar photos - but is it upper deck!?

The lighting and shadows of the promenade deck - so nice for a stroll - she had such sociable spaces - so easy to meet people (especially as they weren't all on their balconies!).

The 1987 staircase in the Grand Lounge - my favourite - because I remember it being absolutely brand spanking new in April 1987.

Crystal Bar - I've got such fond memories of that space.  Loved the way the bar had been designed.

Passionate about QE2's service life for 35 years and creator of this website.

There are less than two days left to cast your ballot this month if you haven't yet. The photos as always are spectacular and offer a great opportunity to think of our beloved QE2.  :)
