QE2 Menu Covers (1970's)
« on: May 01, 2020, 10:37 AM »
The 1970's menu covers are not just a record of what people are eating, but also a fantastic work of art.

Have a look at this Youtube slideshow of the menu covers in my collection.  I will also post photos of the menu covers as the slideshow pictures had to be cropped to fit.

The World Cruise itinerary information was provided by Michael Gallagher.

That was fabulous work, Lynda! Thank you so much for preparing and showing us these gorgeous menu covers, each of them a work of art.

I never knew they existed, until you showed and introduced them last night at the Zoom chat. Just to think of all the people involved in creating these menu covers -- the artists, the printers, the makers and embossers of the papers, and the colours, including the gold leaf -- and finally, many years later, yourself and Michael, collecting them and bringing them to the Forum. Marvellous!

Love those Lynda.

The work that must've gone into each individual menu! As I said on the call - not as easy as throwing images at things!!

Thanks for your kind comments, it was fun to share the slideshow of the menu covers at the chat session last week and preparing the slideshow give me an opportunity to look at these fantastic pieces of QE2 memorabilia.

I have started to upload the covers to the forum Gallery in the Collections & memorabilia album and I will let you know when they are all uploaded.

I really like The maiden World Cruise menu covers and hope I can find more in the future.

On these two menu covers there are  dates, but no details of the port.  However, I remembered that I had started a topic giving itinerary details for the 1975 World Cruise (way back in 2011) and having a look at the details today I see that the first one could represent a visit to  Bombay and the second one Acapulco.  So much you can learn from a simple menu cover, without even delving into the food choices.

Hi Lynda, I hope my attachments make their way to you. Although most are dated 1983 I had the same set from the early 70's. All these items are now home on the QE2 Hotel. Sorry just noticed only 8 attachments per pot and there was abot 16, hey ho another time.

Excellent news that your menus are now with the QE2 in Dubai.

I like the cocktail suggestions.  Is that a tea towel or a poster?

Hello Lynda,
The cocktail suggestions is a public room paper tray mat circa 69/70.
Kind regards
