Happy 80th Birthday: Commodore Ron Warwick
« on: Nov 24, 2020, 01:37 PM »
When forum member, George C Griffiths let us know that Commodore Ron Warwick will be celebrating his 80th birthday on 28 November 2020, we thought forum members would like to have the opportunity to wish him a Happy Birthday and share memories.

If you have photos of Commodore Warwick on QE2 perhaps at a Captain's cocktail party or book signing please add these to your post along with your birthday greetings.

Commodore Warwick started his navy career onboard the RMS Andes in the 1950's and joined the Cunard Line in 1970 sailing with them until his retirement in 2006. He was appointed Master of QE2 in 1990, when he made history being in command of the same ship as his father, who had been the first Master of QE2.  In 2003 he was appointed Commodore of the fleet.

I would like to wish Commodore Warwick a Happy 80th Birthday and hope that even with Covid restrictions, he has a wonderful celebration with family.

I was fortunate to meet Commodore Warwick in 2001 at his book signing.  I also remember Captain Warwick giving an invite for passengers to view the Bridge when we were in Tromso.  He is truly a part of Cunard's and QE2's history.

Happy Birthday for the 28th, Commodore Warwick! I wonder what it was like for him being back in command of QE2 but after her handover, this time 12 years ago. Mixed feelings?
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Best birthday wishes to Commodore Warwick and all who will be celebrating with him!

He was the first QE2 Captain we met, and the only Captain who invited us to his Quarters for drinks. These first impressions count, and were very precious to us.

His is also the first and best book on QE2 in my collection, a book to which I turn again and again for information.

Wishing him many happy returns!

Happy 80th
I had the great pleasure to meet him in the lido on the round UK trip during breakfast at South Queensferry . I had planned to take a trip into Edinburgh , but the chattering lasted till lunchtime So l never made it into Edinburgh. But we did discuss a lot of topics and like to think l helped him with his Ebay.

Again during that trip invited to a private party in the Princess Grill bar (with a hosted bar) It was a fun time and for the life of me l have no idea of the story behind the Flag .

It is lovely to hear memories of meeting Commodore Warwick and to read the birthday wishes.  Please keep posting.

I could not find a photo of when I met Commodore Warwick at the book signing that I mentioned above but here is a photo of the subscription on the book.  The book is a treasured piece of QE2 memorabilia.

When I was working as Casino Tech on the Cunard Countess I would also stand in as a Photographer on Captains Cocktail night. The party would be held in the lido Disco, Captain Warwick would be in the entry corridor for handshakes. Unfortunately the setup required that one of the double doors would remain closed which hid him from view and several passengers would stroll on into the room totally ignoring him.
This resulted in quite a few pictures of the captain making funny faces or rude gestures!! ;D ;D
Really enjoyed sailing with him, he was a very professional seaman.

Wonderful photo, thanks for posting Sam.  Let us know if your Dad has a ship cake for his 80th birthday.  Would need to be a choice between QE2 and QM2 for your Dad, but for me QE2 would win every time.  More QE2 cakes on this topic

Happy Birthday Commodore Warwick.

Many fond memories of great voyages with you as Master: Around Britain 1995 with Commodore Bill Warwick on board (and the above cake!!!), the homebound Cape Town Line Voyage in 2000, QM2's maiden transatlantic 2004...

Heartfelt wishes of good health and many more years of «doing nothing, slowly»!  ;)
