Whether or not you agree with the conversion of the room, the design of the repurposed Ward Room is effective, and makes clever use of the small windows, inspiring the look of an airliner.  I feel it is in keeping with QE2's original interior style, others may not agree.

Some more pics, and their blurb.

Using the word "restored" is just incorrect, given the back to the metal work they've clearly done here.

I am inclined to agree -- this to me is the best of the "new" QE2 that I have seen so far. A new design that looks interesting in its own right.

I like it too. Has a Lookout Bar vibe without the major exterior work that would've otherwise been needed and the resultant change to her forward profile (removal of the galley box etc). Nice that she finally has a room overlooking the bow again that "passengers" can use. I agree though, Rob, that it's far from a restoration and I wish that word wasn't thrown about so much but it suits their marketing better.

Totally agree Willum.

Once they removed 'Echo's bits, AND the dart board - that's really going too far!!

Compared to what I remember from that space, I think it looks really great.

Interesting to see some of the Wardroom's bar stools/chairs are now in use in the Chart Room. Also at least some of the badges/crests are to be found as a second row of them in the Golden Lion.

Great pity as that was a wonderful cozy room with a long history, but I do understand the changes.
Wonder where all that nice wood panelling ended up, as I have asked before, aren't there any QE2 fans living in Dubai who can go dumpster diving? :) :)

Security would probably have them arrested if taking some of the "rubbish" (valuable history) that's dumped at one edge of her dockside perimeter...and Dubai prisons are not worth the risk. Trying to explain what one is doing to security would be getting off lightly if they then didn't bat an eyelid and that's if they understand you.

You'd have thought such an iconic space full of the vessel's history as the wardroom was would have been made a priority for preservation "as is" and would surely have been a very popular part of any museum tour itinerary.
