QE2 old ladybird books
« on: Jan 15, 2020, 04:06 PM »
After the recent hint by Peter that a construction photo of QE2 reminded him of one in a Ladybird book. Well I have the book and there are more.

That's fantastic! Thank you, Waverley :) .

I never knew about these books. When were they published? Do they have text as well?

Thank you Robert - so fabulous.

I believe I have this wonderful book in my collection - although can't say for sure because the boxes are in the loft since we move to this house 4 years ago....

Anyhow, ladybird books, and the art in them, were a part of my childhood (and pretty much everybody my age in Britain I'm sure).  They're now treasured.

There is a wonderful lady on Twitter called Helen Day - who was also on a BBC TV programme about the Ladybird art a couple of years ago - and her twitter account is worth following or at least viewing.

Isabelle. These photos are from two Ladybird books published in 1969 and 1971.
Some of the text relates to the QE2 and other ships in general.
Rob fascinating article about the Ladybird book collection.

Ah, I knew someone would have it somewhere!  ;D

I am fairly sure that most of those paintings are based on photographs that we have seen on the forum aren't they?  Perhaps we could match the paintings to the original photos for a side by side comparison?

Amazing to see the images in the Ladybird books.  I don't think I have seen the books - any copies are treasures for sure.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank
