Hello from Paul
« on: Aug 16, 2009, 08:06 PM »
I've been interested in ships for as long as I can remember and have followed QE2's fortunes since the Q4/ No 736 days. I watched her building, saw her launch and have been fortunate to travel on her 4 times including a return Transatlantic round voyage.
This looks a very interesting way to keep abreast of her fortunes and look at her glory days.

Welcome, Paul, and I hope you enjoy the forum.  As my childhood favourite was the Jeanie Deans, I fully approve of your choice of name!

Hi Helen,
Thanks for the comment. I was a JEANIE person also and it was such a shame she was not a success as QUEEN OF THE SOUTH- what a combination she and WAVERLEY would have made although she always had the edge.......

Hello Paul,

So you've both got me interested now - what became of Jeanie Deans?

She was sold for service on the Thames under the condition she was renamed. She was painted in LNER colours and renamed QUEEN OF THE SOUTH. Mechanical problems dogged her unfortunately and she went to Belgium for scrap in 1967 after a short 1965/66 season.

Hi Paul,

Welcome to the forum.

Controversial stuff comparing Jeanie & Waverley there! I'm too young to have seen Jeanie for real, but have a 1:32 scale model in the early stages of construction to make up for that, possibly prefer the more modern lines of the Waverley though, but very fond in Jeanie it it's 1932-1935 condition with the kwirky extended funnels but before they painted it grey.

Cheers!  8)

Jeanie's rebuild was to test the design for the then un-named paddler the LNER had ordered from Inglis with a 1947 delivery. And the rest as they say is history..........

Hello Paul
And Welcome!

It's good that you have come aboard, and hope that you will enjoy being part of the QE2 Forum!
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.
