I'm very much looking forward to attending this - assuming I can get away from work on time!

Hope to see some of you there?

I'll be there along with Tom, Lynda and John!

Looking forward to it - never heard Stephen Payne present but was "chuffed" to meet him when he chaired the PM session at the Conference 2 years ago.

Enjoyed the QE2 talk by Stephen Payne held in The magnificent Glasgow City Chambers venue. Gav, John George and I were the only forum members (as far as I know) if you were there let us know and post pictures.

Nice touch in that Stephen Payne dedicated his talk to Ronnie Keir, Cunard Chief Engineer, who died last year. Ronnie was from Clydebank and worked as an apprentice at John Brown’s shipyard when QE2 was being built. He was one of the speakers at the QE2 conference we held in Clydebank in 2017.

Great evening with great company in great surroundings!

Dedicating the presentation to Ronnie was a great touch. He was very obviously (and quite rightly) held in high regard within Cunard.

Looks like a splendid evening in a splendid venue!

And how about the talk, what impressed you the most? Which part of QE2's life was it focused on?

Hi Isabelle,

Dr Payne took us from the end of the Cunard heyday in the late 50s through the aborted Q3 project then all the way through to QE2's conversion to a hotel.

Having served with Ronnie several times i can only echo your last sentence, Ronnie was 'one of the lads' not from the joining in with them point of view, but from the point of view that he understood what the 'lads' felt and took that into account when he made, often difficult decisions.
I first met him when he joined QE2 as Staff Ch, and he introduced himself at a cocktail party, we went for dinner in the Lido where i realised not only how professional he was but also, what a thoroughly nice person.
I'm so glad i had the opportunity to renew my friendship with him at the QE2 Conference in Glasgow, before his sad parting.
