Poll for the September Competition topic
« on: Aug 05, 2019, 09:54 PM »
Thank you to everyone who suggested topics for our very special photo competition, which will take place in September. In order to prepare for this special month,

--> please vote for the three topics which you feel will attract a maximum number of participating photos.

The topic gathering most votes will be the topic for which a very special prize awaits :) .

We can announce two very special prizes. The first of these will be for the person whose topic is chosen in this poll. The prize is a silver dish donated by Rod, commemorating QE2's participation in the festivities in Philadelphia (1682-1982).

Rod has promised to polish it before sending it to the prizewinner!

The winner of the September competition itself, i.e. the first month of photo competitions for the 2021 (!) calendar, will receive the main special prize :

Commodore Ron Warwick is donating a signed copy of his new book co-authored with Sam Warwick:

QE2: The Cunard Line Flagship, Queen Elizabeth 2

https://www.theqe2story.com/forum/index.php?topic=4099.msg102826#msg102826

with a special bookplate, signed by himself and Sam, and with a copy of Bil Warwick's signature :

And so, the choice of the theme for September is very important! The poll will stay open for two weeks only, so please make sure you vote and give the proposer of the best topic the chance to win Rod's silver dish!

I have chosen the three I think would generate good, interesting pictures, but a difficult decision as so many good themes have been suggested.

Fantastic prize for the winning theme, thanks to Rod

Quite an unusual topic in that while it might appear an open vote, we are in effect voting for a topic that we think we might have a photo to enter the comp with .

Which in turn could encourage more entries!

I've just voted - although I picked one that I thought just about anyone could enter (as long as they've seen QE2 somewhere)

Whats the record?

Not sure what we would want to compare it with! This is the first time we have carried out a poll of this sort. And so, even one voter would have set a record  ;) .

As regards the recent photo competition voters, you will find statistics here :

Some might say each vote is record breaking, it takes time to look at every photo, study the photo and lm sure every vote is well thought through. you just cant rush through the pics

It would lm sure be easier to just hit a "like" button , and scroll on down ,as on other places but after a day its gone woosh into oblivion where as here its here to say.

I think we may be breaking a record with this poll.

We have many times hoped we would get a vote for each day of the month in the photo competitions.

So, without doing research, I am guessing we are ahead of the number of voters for most polls.

Please vote! One Photo theme is in the lead with two close behind - your vote could make all the difference.

We want to try to get a record number of photos entered for the September competition so getting a theme that will generate lots of photos is important

Just wondering, when is the cut off for the Yearly much loved QE2 calendar.

The August competition is the last competition to go into the 2020 calendar. This is why we are making a special occasion of the September competition, when all things start anew!

Voting on the August competition takes place in September, which means that I shall be able to complete the calendar once we know the result at the beginning of October and I have received the high-resolution copy of the winning photo. You can therefore expect it to go on sale some time in October.

The suggestion has been made that the calendar would look better if fewer photos were included, rather than trying to squeeze as many as possible into the twelve pages. What do you think?

I'd say one per month is fine - otherwise how else would we be able to show off so many of the excellent images?!?

If it's a good enough system for the Countryfile calendar, it's good enough a system for us...  :)

We have a winner!

35 people have voted, and the clear favourite (with 12 votes) is :

QE2 in Port

proposed by Barumfox, who will receive the silver dish donated by Rod!

The September competition, with the Warwicks' new book as the prize, will therefore have "QE2 in port" as its topic. Time to search through your photos and find the best ones likely to win the big prize!

I'd agree that we shouldn't go overboard with the multiple photo pages, they reduce the impact of the main photo.  For me it depends on the photo though, some photos are truly stunning, whereas others capture a happy memory or thing and don't really need to be huge...  A balance needs struck!

QE2 in Port is an excellent choice for the September theme. We had 35 people voting for the winning theme, if they all uploaded 3 photos to the competition we would have 105 wonderful QE2 in Port Photos.
