The theme for the January competition "Bon Voyage -- QE2 as she sets sail for another voyage" was chosen by Jerry Egerton.

Thank you to everyone who submitted pictures, which we really appreciate, and we hope that you enjoy choosing and voting for your 3 favourites.

Voting is easy, but you need to be registered as a Forum member and log into the Forum to vote.  Whether or not you have submitted photos, please support those who have participated, by choosing your three favourite ones, noting the details, then tick the relevant box on the poll.  If you have entered photos please do not vote for your own pictures.

To make it easier for you, we have posted the pictures below, however you can also view the photos in the Gallery Album, "Bon Voyage -- QE2 as she sets sail for another voyage", where you can see them all at once, in thumbnail form, plus you can view larger versions of the pictures by clicking on the photo to see medium size, and click once more to see them in large size.

You will not see the results of the vote until the poll has closed on 1 March 2019, after all time zones have had a chance to catch up with the voting deadline.

As always the choice is yours - enjoy!

  • At Mach 2 three days after being on QE2...
I have voted - and it's another difficult choice.

Question: Final Atlantic Departure... that's Hythe Pier isn't it?  I took a very similar shot once...

Well, that's me votes cast and this time it took a lot longer that I thoiught it would.      I had made my choices and then before I pressed the send button I decided to have a last look at all the entries.    When I studied the pictures I noticed that there were some very subtle 'Bon Voyage' things in some of the pictures so I changed my mind in a couple of my selections.                   Sometimes you see things in pictures that might not have stood out at a quick glance.        Whoever the winner is, good luck !

These are superb - and so incredibly sad.
There was a sense of expectation that is inconceivable now - QE2 Really did her best for us all.
What an experience we've had and how fortunate we've been.
Thank you - these are superb.

  • QE2 started a dream to go to sea - now a reality!
Another tricky choice given a number of other photos I would've chosen if we had more than three votes!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Peter - yes it was taken from Hythe Pier - plenty of people had turned up to see her off - preceded by Ventura with QM2 following. 6 days later I was down at Battery Park before dawn with a smaller gathering of enthusiasts - to see her sail silently past and up the Hudson to Pier 90 with QM2 docking at Red Hook the other side of Governor's Island.

Please spend some time with QE2 this weekend as you look at all the wonderful photos in this month's photo competition.  Then make your selections, but it will be a difficult choice !   :)

So many excellent photos that capture a sail away that it was hard to choose from the pictures of the ship or the photos of passengers or crew on deck.

Thanks to everyone who submitted photos

I just voted !!   :)  It was a very difficult choice, and perhaps we should give each photographer an award, as each and every photo is a gem !  If you have not yet voted, please log in and join those of us who have voted.  It is a lot of fun to do so !   :)

Yes, you can change your vote. If you do so, you need to cast your three votes again, for the same or other pictures. This is available until the moment the poll closes.
