Sounds a bit like rearranging the deckchairs...

Also based on my most recent QM2 trip especially, I strongly object to

Cunard’s undisputed role as the benchmark for luxury travel
- what complete nonsense.  There are a number of cruise lines which offer more luxury, and across all forms of travel there's a lot more.

There must be a whole Dept within Carnival that spends it days thinking up new job titles for their senior Executives! Snr vice President this and Snr Vice President that.

Around the late 90s a certain Hotel Manager, who will remain nameless, but his christian name linked with Humperdinck, started using the title of 'Executive Hotel Manager'! The Ch Officer, being a mischief making Norwegian, started referring to everybody as Executive this and that!
Even the Deck Cadet - a Snr Cunard Captain today - he openly called on the Radio as 'Executive Cadet'!
After a few weeks and when the whole ship realised what was going on, did the HM begin to reduce the usage of the Executive part of his Rank, although whenever he introduced himself it was still very much in use!!

Indeed !  l always found with QE2 there was a great mystique about her luxury, those that never travelled on her had one idea of what she was supposed to be like and those that sailed and indeed on four deck that could never be clased as luxury, but she was very homely.
Indeed what makes luxury ?
I agree with Rob there are a great many lines out there giving the same service and better style as the new Cunard ships, but what does set them apart ?
The name Cunard is that, only a name stuck on the side of a ship.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
 you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

I've been to some luxurious places, been spoiled rotten, and really the Cunard experience that I had this year was fun, enjoyable, but a fairly long way from luxurious. Some of this would be changed by a move to grills, but not all.

The smaller more expensive cruise lines appear to me to offer genuine luxury, and are in my lottery win dream holiday category.

Not long after i joined Cunard - Vistafjord - we were cruising in the med and in one port there was a 1/2 star Greek Ship berthed astern of us.
I was on the bridge talking to the Ch Off and he made some derisory remark about this other ship, also on the Bridge was The Captain, who immediately rebuked Ch Off with the comment;
'We might feel that we are 5* and we might well be but, there will be something or other that they do on there that is far better than we do on here. They are not right or wrong, it's just they do things different to us'.

A comment that stayed with me for the next 20 years i was at sea.
