It is sad to hear of the passing of Simon.... I got to know him when I was the Technical Manager for the construction of the Queen Mary 2 in St. Nazaire, he was appointed as it's first Chief Engineer. I believe it was a big disappointment to him when for medical reasons he didn't take her to sea, he was replaced as the sailing Chief Engineer before delivery. Simon attended factory acceptance tests and became the voice for Cunard on the technical side of things, his superior technical knowledge was a great asset to the construction.

Sad news, i knew Simon from QE2 and he was a very professional, approachable and understanding Ch Engineer. It was disappointing when he was declared Medically Unfit to take QM2 to sea, but he was still able to contribute his vast knowledge and experience to the project and handed her over to an equally competent and professional Ch Eng, Brian Whatling.
