Cunard Houses in London!
« on: Aug 18, 2018, 01:11 PM »
Having lived and worked very close to the Cunard Building in Liverpool, and visited both this as well as the Cunard  Building that is 25 Broadway in New York, and lived and worked in London over very many years - how interesting  it was yesterday to discover two Cunard buildings  in London!
Addresses:
Cunard House, 15 Lower Regent Street, London SW1 4LR
88 Leadenhall Street, London EC3 3BA

 - and now named 'Carnival House, 5 Gainsford Street, London SE1 - was this also Cunard House?
QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Not forgetting Cunard on 30A Pall Mall if l recall, and Diana Mamato as office manager.
The eagle eyed will notice the Cunard Club tie.
Previous to my Cunard Day that it was Afternoon at The Ritz with Lee,A QE2 Waiter and later a look into Brief Encounter in St Martins Lane where the evening ended up. The latter nothing to do with Cunard, Other than having a few Queens about.

Back then in 1991 The Ritz had only two sittings for Afternoon Tea. 3pm and 4.30pm and the price a very reasonable £17.50. Booking as still months in advance. These days your limited to 90 minutes and its from 11.30 to 7pm.The price just a little bit more .
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Rosie

The Gainsford Street Building was never named Cunard House - it was Carnival House.

As Myles says there was a Cunard Office on Pall Mall (my first one) as well as 8 Berkeley Street and 52 Berkeley Street (now a Starbucks).

I also worked in the Pall Mall office and yes, Diana was the manager there... the day after the ship arrived in Southampton there would be a queue of passengers looking to change their flights back!

In your opinion what was QE2's "final nail in the coffin" with Cunard?
