Her Majesty The Queen onboard QE2
« on: Jun 11, 2018, 02:46 PM »
Since QE2 Hotel opened in Dubai there has been some discussion about where HM The Queen ate and visited while onboard. Laying the rumors to rest, the following information was provided by Michael Gallagher and are © Michael Gallagher for The QE2 Story:

At no time did The Queen visit the Queen Elizabeth or Queen Mary Suites and she never ate in the Queens Grill or drank in the Queens Grill Lounge.

The Queen Visited the ship on 1 May 1969 and dined in the Grill Room (today’s Princess Grill) and on that date she used cabin 1040 to refresh.

On her visit on 27 July 1990 The Queen did sail on the ship (becoming the first reigning Monarch to sail on a ship with commercial passengers) for just under four hours and during that time she had lunch in the Columbia Restaurant (today’s Caronia Restaurant). She used no cabins to refresh that day.

And on her final visit on 2 June 2008 The Queen dined in the Caronia Restaurant and used the Carinthia Suite on Two Deck to refresh in.

Once again Michael lays 'theories' and 'facts' to rest with his intimate knowledge of ALL things Cunard and 'closes' a subject.

The man is a legend and i'm proud to call him 'friend'!

Indeed  :)..But what about the poor passengers being given tours round QE2 and being lead to believe that Her Majesty ate here or there and slept here and there  ;) ;)

That is a problem that the current owners will have to explain to the people they have 'knowingly' lied to, it'll come back to haunt them!

Publicity? A way to make more money saying that the Queen has ate here so they can charge more for that area?

I think they were either misinformed or thought because of the name that the Queen dined there.  But they will be  learning the history of the ship bit by bit, especially if they read the forum.

These are understandable comments, I said the same myself at the time. The Director of Sales onboard Hotel Queen Elizabeth 2 is an ex-Crewmember Kenneth Todd, he has categorically assured those of us that commented on the mis-information being given out by the Hotel QE2 Navigators that they were NOT briefed beforehand to state that HM The Queen stayed onboard or dined in the QG, etc. It appears some of them were either confused or embellished their presentation through over enthusiasm. Kenneth is aware that this occurred and has placed, with immediate effect, measures to ensure his Navigators keep to known facts.

The Queen did pass through the Queens Grill and Lounge but never ate or drank there (here she is doing so in 1990)
