Re: The status of Saga Rose, silly question but I wonder if anyone has actually tried asking Saga HQ direct what is going on?

Failing that Peter, try these people http://www.acromas.com/ They own Saga and a few other companies too!

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

Has Saga Rose left Gibraltar?
There's a possibility that she may be on her way to South Africa via Tenerife.
Please  - is there more news?
Thanks!

LinersList reporting that she's off to be a hotel ship in Cape Town.

Now, where have I heard that plan before...

There should be no excuse about this ship being too big to fit in the port.  ;)

Well i have done a fair bit of Google searching for any scrap of news on Saga Rose, and her re-location, and i have found nothing! So whatever it is, it’s being kept quiet.

All i could find was a record on the Marine Traffic website of the Rose's position yesterday. She is defiantly near Tenerife; i would imagine she would be there by now. Beyond that, i do not know!

I would be interested in any news. A hotel ship in Cape Town would be interesting, seeing as QE2 fell through. Would it be permanent or just for the Cup, which is very soon now!?

Regards,
Matt

Thanks for the heads up.............maybe she is off to Cape Town but the difference being that the money earned from people staying aboard will go to Cape Town and not Dubai??

I was looking on the Saga site today, primarily to look at the Saga Rose II, but I found they still have some videos showing the Rose and Ruby

http://travel.saga.co.uk/holidays/ocean-cruises/videos-and-vt.aspx

Check out video #4, the Rose and Ruby sailing in formation with some great helicopter shots and a cool sound track.  Would love to have it at a higher resolution!

Thank you for the link, Richard
It's a great video.
All these two beautiful ships need now is for you and your trusty camera to have a good look around inside!!
(Wonder whether the 'Over 50 rule' will apply at Saga Rose's next port of call!)

LOL, that is exactly what I was thinking.  If she does dock and the general public can stay aboard I will try and go............if I can afford it.  I'd love to go onboard and I can't help think that Saga discriminating on the basis of age is illegal???

By the way, I hear something called flvrecorder is good for "downloading" those videos.

QE2 called at Walvis Bay during the normal course of her sailing career so perhaps it's just a stop for fuel before a final jaunt to Cape Town?

'cruising talk's members are discussing the various possibilities for Saga Rose's journey - some seem more negative than others. It would seem that (as yet?) she's not listed for any ports in S Africa.
Not too sure whether it will be alright to post a direct link here, without their Mods Consent?

I really do hope she is going to a place where she will be used well, as a hotel. I would not like to see this grand girl scrapped!

Here was her last known position on Marine Traffic
