This reason for this silly door is purely to accomodate the corporate market.       They funnel the clients in the Queens Grill lounge area, serve them from the bar and then encourage them out of that door to sit on plastic chairs and tables.     Silly and very tacky but totally geared to the corporate market that they are after.

Sad to hear but not surprising either given the numerous corporate events taking place onboard in the likes of the Queens Room.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

Hello Everyone, my wife and I are currently onboard for a few days, staying in one of the One Deck QG cabins with the oval window...

If anyone has any questions about QE2 as she is today, or what it’s like staying onboard, please ask.

It’s our third visit so we hopefully have a good impression of her by now...

At least she is proving popular with that market.  Imagine if there was no corporate market and they were depending on past passengers ...  or passing trade...

There are two corporate events happening now...the business from these seems far greater than the hotel traffic.

I am pleased the ship is starting to find her niche and am hoping to see the conference facilities.

With the corporate events on, how much of the ship is available to hotel guests?

At the moment the majority of the public space on the Upper and Quarter Decks is out of bounds, including the Yacht Club.  There are barriers everywhere and a constant worry of straying into ‘closed’ areas, just by moving around the ship.

Also, the boat deck outside space isn’t accessible, which we had been told it would be.  When the QG bar is open, the section outside is usually open too, but the rest is roped off.

This evening we decided to leave the ship and go elsewhere, there is so much choice in Dubai and the quality of hotels and restaurants around the City generally excellent.

Such a shame, even if one justifies the income brought in and therefore her continued survival...what's it all for if everyone onboard can't enjoy the ship somewhat? I'd be unhappy to say the least as a paying hotel guest having flown out and all... Echoes of SS Rotterdam's early hotel operations here, not to mention my auntie's experience on QM in Long Beach last year.

It also has a negative impact. imagine if you went there for one night to find some of the main areas closed off.
Iv been on Queen Mary and only once experienced her when a lounge was closed off. it wasnt nice.

It is our final evening on board tonight, we are thinking of starting with a gin and tonic in the Yacht Club and will certainly raise a glass to you all!

After that is it a QG dinner?  After dinner drinks in the chart room maybe?

After drinks at the Yacht Club, starting outside to watch the sunset and then inside as it was getting chilly, we decided to eat shoreside.  On special occasions, such as Christmas Day the restaurants are full and the atmosphere is reminiscent of the ship in service, but last night it was very quiet on board, so we headed to the buzz of the Creek, nearby.
