Room 2097 DID feel familiar, the bed is the same way round and in the bathrooms some of the fittings, like baths, mirrors and loos etc are original.  When we stayed there, in 2005, I think the upholstery was red and white striped, which I think had had its day then, but we would have liked to see more of the original furniture used, like they’ve done on the Rotterdam.  We think a partition wall has gone, giving it a walk in wardrobe before...

Next time we stay onboard we’re going to try for Deck Two, it felt more like “our” QE2 than the Sun Deck, which we never stayed on while she was in service...

I’ve just checked my old photos from that trip in 2005, when we stayed in 2097, a freebie upgrade to PH from Mauretania...a two nighter to Guernsey...I only had my old SLR and didn’t get any shots of the cabin!!!  Here are a few I did take...it was much harder then!!

On the first day we were supposed to tender to St Peter Port, but it was too foggy, so we had a sea day and came back the following day instead.  Then we had some “drama” as the port anchor became wrapped around its chain and we watched from the bit below the bridge while it was raised, then lowered a few times before it sorted itself out...great memories which secured QE2 in our hearts...and subsequent travel plans!

The upgrade was from Mauri to Princess Grill...which we thought wonderful!

Thanks to the wonderful QE2 team we were afforded a privileged peek in the Queen Mary and Queen Elizabeth Suites...my-oh-my they were fabulous!  We hadn’t seen them before so can’t comment on any changes, but they looked pretty original, with re-fitted bathrooms etc...I am sure people on here will know a lot better...

Our dinner last night in the Queens Grill was superb, we met in the Gin Bar, formerly Queens Grill Bar I believe, then had a magnificent tasting menu, cooked by one of the chefs from the Cunard ownership...a magical experience...I’ll try to piece together the stages in photos...

Last night the chef was enjoying sending us out little treats between courses...the food tasted wonderful and the service was top drawer...

Here is a photo of some of the QG team, with Christopher, from
Earlier in the day...

Gav asked about prices...some cabins come with extras like happy hours in bars etc, here is a copy of our welcome letter and some of the Yacht Club menu.  We had afternoon tea there yesterday, which was included with our cabin grade for example...

Glad you're home safe guys.  Thank you for "taking us all with you" and sharing so much.  Its been great to follow your adventure, and I'm so pleased and proud and grateful that you were able to take some of The QE2 Story with you - both literally and figuratively.

Lots going on with her just now what with the fashion show, Ramadan, rooms opening up - and lots more to come with all the other spaces still being worked on.

Queens Room then to Queens Grill

Thank you again to you both Alex! You have been so generous with your 'holiday time, and kind thoughts in showing us so much, particularly of what's still special in the way of spaces and objects still in familiar places.
Hoping the lovely memories will stay with you for Ages!

Regarding The Gentleman and Jacket brass sign, outside the Queens Grill - Does anyone know whether this was always there...and were there any others outside the other Dining Rooms?

That same view and how it looked in October 2008...
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!

Hi Alex
Just a thought!
Did you get to hear anything more about the mechanical side of things - The ECR, the Props shaft (and door mat!), the ballast tanks - the rubbish disposing bits, the fog horn whistle and lights etc?
Just wondering too - did you get out and onto her foc's'le?

Another thing I wondered about too was the space above the Puzzle Table where the great painting of RMS Mauritania used to be hung, Upper Deck I think...
Hoping very much that the paintings now not on board aren't being replaces by anything of less quality and purpose - e.g. naff stuff / cheap prints!
Btw did you notice the colourful mural on the wall outside the inside Lido entrance?

Rest well!
Rosie
