Here are a few pictures from the museum in the terminal.

I've never seen a photo before of the part of the piston of "Echo" diesel that was kept in the Wardroom! All excellent photos, bringing back (happy) memories even if a lot of the items are no longer onboard.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

We could not believe it when we saw this chair from the Queens Room in the museum.  This was me sitting on one in 1983!

Here is another now and then!

The drawer unit was also in the museum, and the other picture is of the one in our little cabin (2019) in 1983.

The Queens Room chair looks original too, given the wear and tear on the base! Wonder if it was used in the crew areas for many years after the 1986/7 re-engining refit (I think) it was replaced in? As happened with other items of furniture! Lasted around 50 years now and still looks great, not many things can do that (except QE2 externally herself)!

Another now and then!

We were telling the staff about the midships lobby being navy and green on our first trip.

Thomas,
The 'Part of the piston from the wardroom' is actually the centre section of the crankcase door. It covered the opening through which the conrod, b.e. bearing was withdrawn from the crankpit. This remnant used to live on the inner bulkhead around the corner by the wardy dart board, along with a little plaque to commemorate the event - the edge of it can just be seen to the left in the photo of the bar - see attached.
The two circular builder's plates either side of the rocker cover remnant are the actual plates off the ship's whistles. I will blow up my original photos and see if I can make them a little clearer. Done!
I wonder what has happened to all the other memorabilia from the wardroom?

The evening lighting in Mauretania and crystal bar looks far too bright - the opposite of mood lighting.  Was it as it seems in the photos?  Restaurants at night need to be dimmed down...

Thomas,
The 'Part of the piston from the wardroom' is actually the rocker cover from the top of the cylinder head. It covered the valve gear, etc, on the top of the head. This remnant used to live on the inner bulkhead around the corner by the wardy dart board, along with a little plaque to commemorate the event - the edge of it can just be seen to the left in the photo of the bar - see attached.

Thank you Skilly for your excellent information! I suspect most if not all the memorabilia from the Wardroom is in the terminal building now, since the Wardroom is no longer what it was (it's undergoing major construction work) and is being repurposed as we speak.

Sorry to Thomas & All,

Must be too late at night (actually 0315 here). The MAN B&W emblem shown in my earlier post photo is from the centre of the crankcase door. It is the wrong shape for the rocker cover emblem. My bad!!
I have corrected the text below in my earlier posting. Gotta keep the facts right!
Cheers,

Skilly

No worries! It appears to show a part of the damage the diesel received?

I am guessing from the state of that part that this is the one that put a leg out of bed?

Edited....  I just saw Skilly's later post with the picture of the plaque underneath it, which answers my question...

Re-attaching Alan & Shona's "then and now" photos from above with fade-correction applied.

Visited the QE2 this week and found it quite sad to be honest. Not what I remember from the 34 cruises 😪
