There has already been a great deal of discussion regarding visiting QE2Hotel.  But based on current discussions, I thought a poll might prove interesting.  And please feel free to comment.

I do not have any current plans to visit, although if I ever did need to stay in Dubai - which is unlikely - she would probably be my first choice of hotel - but I will wait and see what happens after this much-mooted "grand opening" in the autumn first...

Never say never!
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

I plan to visit, particularly as QE2 has been part of my life since she was being built in Clydebank.  Dubai is not a place I would want to visit, but I feel I want to see QE2 again and see what she looks like in her new life as a hotel ship.  I know she will not be the same as when she was sailing and it is important to go with an open mind.

As for the decor - well when I first sailed on the ship in 1997, I was disappointed with the decor, compared with her 1960's style, but she was still QE2.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Cunardqueen and Peter M express what I feel too.

I have a lot of sympathy though for those saying they would want to go and see for themselves. I remain open to changing my mind, but don't expect to do so  ;D.

Don’t go !   I have done it and the wonderful memories that I had have been rather tarnished.        Sure, she has new owners and they have their own ideas  of how to make money out of her as that is what they must do.    Dubai style is not necessary what we might like so if you want to keep your dreams alive don’t bother with the visit.     We stayed in one of they staterooms that we had inhabited a few years back and apart from the same picture being on the wall everything was different and the service in everything was far removed from that of the past..

I will not be going. If it happened that I mysteriously ended up in Dubai, I would probably make the effort to go.
But to be honest, I don't think I would recognize  anything about her apart from the outside.

Human rights issue aside , not that I'm being dismissive of their barbaric treatment, which is frankly shocking. l have never ever had any notion to visit that cesspit.

It would be interesting to know if given how QE2 had her fair share of Friends of Dorothy, if she still was as welcoming as her sea days. If there should be any hesitation in any answer.. then enough said .

I would probably feel the same way. I am most unlikely to turn up in Dubai, but even if so, I would probably be quite reluctant to spoil my happy memories of QE2 as she was.

QE2's head of heritage tours in Dubai, Peter Warwick, is openly a Friend of Dorothy and is well liked out there amongst most visitors to the ship and amongst his colleagues. Dubai is, after all, a place of contradictions where things are not clear cut. It is a shame to say the least that other Friend's of Dorothy have to think twice about visiting, or can't do so with their partners, given some of Dubai's backwards laws.
