"I’m currently on QE and we got a notice today that the bust of Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother’s standard, the QE2 bell and builders plaques, and my personal favorite the silver model of QE2 are going to be packed up and transferred to QM2 in Hong Kong, so they can be returned to Dubai Ports who purchased them, and now they are to be returned. I guess QEs loss will be Dubai’s gain." from Lesley Samuels

Interesting. Thanks. Michael can shed more on the arrangements that were originally made for these, since he made them...

It was interesting when news first broke about the memorabilia being removed from QE2 and placed on Queen Elizabeth there was mixed views.  Rob you were very clear that you would have preferred the items to stay on QE2, so good result.

There are many people who sail on Queen Elizabeth who have no interest in the QE2 memorabilia.  People who visit QE2 in Dubai will be there because of an interest in the ship and the I would think that memorabilia will be of interest to them.

I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Were the items on loan to Cunard or did Cunard realise at the last minute they had sold literally all the family silver and went cap in hand to the owners back then....
Lets be fair such things which are part of QE2s history should be where they belong and that is firmly back on the great ship herself.

Its an interesting point, regarding the items on loan or whatever it is being called, that are now onboard Queen Elizabeth.
Did Nakheel offer such items? or did Cunard perhaps suggest they could borrow them. Given Nakheels very tight lipped attitude can we see them asking Cunard, do you want to borrow anything and simply handing it over?

Now if I was in charge at Nakheel and they approached me l would be inclined to say ..Ok lets work something out and loosen the terms of the contract, and allow Nakheel to explore other options with QE2. However it does leave you wondering about the future. Have such prized items been loaned with the thinking that QE2 is ultimately being scrapped and that getting rid of the family silver now will make it easier to bear later on. Haven't Nakheel actually removed a lot of things for safe keeping from onboard anyway under the guise that the hot weather will affect things.

Imagine the poor buyers/owners that are supposedly looking over QE2 and seeing large chunks of display missing and being asked where they are, Oh we loaned them back to the previous owners.... egg on your face springs to mind.
Lets not forget Cunard when QE2 was sold telling everyone she had been sold intact as it wasnt fair to split her heritage up.. Now two years later they are doing exactly what they didnt want to happen.

Im surprised given how Nakheel operate  and tell nobody absolutely nothing that they have given up such prized objects....It would be interesting to know why!!. Otherwise it may leave a nasty whiff in the air.

Well found, Lesley!
How good to know that the 'Famous Five' are (very hopefully) to be re-instated - maybe on board, and definitely need to be Well secured, as well as guarded.
(I believe it was the Royal Standard, rather than 'only' the HM The Queen Mother's standard?)
Thank you too, to Cunard, QE, QM2 as well as everyone else involved!

(PS - Next - Might there be news of all the Artwork, the John Piper tapestries, Britannia, and the wonderful engagement portrait of HM The Queen and Prince Philip?
And dare we hope? The Lifeboats!)

  the John Piper tapestries

If we were in charge where would you hang these works of art, How often did we walk past these, glance up and think how lovely they were, and carry on our merry little way...
Guilty as charged  ???

Although these items belong to QE2 I would hope there is a contractual clause that if she is ever sold for scrap etc that these items be returned to the UK for display in a Museum....

Casino Chris - yes! What you suggest would need to be re- negotiated.
There are still many other valuables in the owner's keep - and in storage.
It would seem that given the will to care for her - there's good reason to expect that her 'belongings' will also be well respected. The Propellers (to me) seem every bit as important as her engines - after all, had she not had and used them throughout her service life - we wouldn't be here now!
Hopefully, her engines And her props can remain in situ.
At least, her props could be museum-ified - as Lusitania's one has (Liverpool) if deemed necessary  - however, goodness knows where her Engines could be displayed - these, together with her propellers and shaft could be best kept on board to help act as 'ballast'.

Regarding the Bell, and the other four items, there is confirmation from a person working with Cunard.
'Yes, this is true Rosie. They will be boxed up and transferred to Queen Mary 2' when the ships meet in Hong Kong next Friday. They will be offloaded in Dubai on April 18th'. .

The Bell and the Plaque are what I'm most pleased about.  Neither of them should ever have left the ship, they are part of her to the end.  The silver model is a bonus!  I hope it can end up back where it came from - although part of the effect of the model in that space, is that the space was often fairly dim, this may not be the case as the new main entrance to the ship in Dubai.

News from QE this morning.
The items including the Bell are already packed up on board QE and will be handed over to QM2 in the next couple of days.
I'd hoped that perhaps someone on board QE might have thought to ring the bell and send a video for Rob, to be posted here!
However 'House-keeping' and packaging must have got there first!
So - Godspeed to The Bell and QM2!

There should still be three Bells on QE2 - one on the Bridge (?) and the other on her fo'c'sle, shouldn't there?

It also appears that the Laconia Cup will also be making it's way back to the QE2, according to a source on QM2.
