Early QE2 Brochure
« on: Mar 05, 2018, 06:43 PM »
Found this early QE2 brochure.  Not sure when its from, anyone know?

It has lots of pictures of the ship herself and of just how "not boring" ocean liners can be.  And, I love the copy on the first page!

It looks to be from 1969 to 1972 (lack of penthouses etc etc). I think the slogan was the first one used in her marketing so could be her maiden season to be more specific.
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

The slogan being "QE2. The Great One Between London and New York"?  That might be an interesting topic unto itself -- "QE2's Marketing Slogans throughout the years".

I'm not particularly sure, I thought the first slogan she used was "Ocean Liners have been boring long enough" - but the photo of her on the front cover is the same used in the first brochure I think. I stand to be corrected significantly here by those more knowledgable though!

Yes a separate topic on her marketing slogans over the years would be very interesting!

I have this brochure since childhood and always loved it.

It was extremely interesting to read all the details of its conception. Thank you Michael!

Thanks, Isabelle!  The date, description and history of the brochure posted above (which people are thanking Michael for) can also be found in that newly created marketing slogan topic, here:

The waiter's tan jacket dates this to 1969.  By 1972 the waiters had light blue waistcoats.

When QE2 entered service it was not only the ship that displayed cutting edge design but the uniforms of the crew had also received a makeover. For example stewards wore beige jackets and white polo neck jumpers. While the new designs were smart they proved to be unpractical and by February 1970 the company had replaced them with new designs.

Very interesting to look at these pictures. I cannot imagine that Cunard would advertise one of their ships in this way nowadays...

AIDA yes, quite possibly. But not Cunard. Those were the days!

This is wonderful Scott - Thank you so much.
About the height of the Black funnel, in one photo (2nd Row) it looks skinny, yet in another (4th row) it looks a little bit shorter and chunky!
So over to the very interesting details here!

I'm back from my summer vacation / birthday trip. Twenty years ago this past week I spent the first of many birthdays aboard QE2 and this year I received many QE2 related gifts to celebrate that anniversary, including the amazing Transart Book!

Another gift was this brochure advertising the "new" penthouses with the a deck plan.
