QE2 Chief Engineer: 1980 to 1984
Born: October 1923 in Eccles
Died: July 2013

Background:

Education: Studied marine engineering at a technical college in Salford

1943: Joined RMS Queen Mary as a Junior Engineering Officer
1946 to circa 1960: Served on “Samouse” (Liberty ship), Parthia and Britannic.
1960 to circa 1967: Served on RMS Queen Elizabeth
Ron Bateson was in Clydebank at the time QE2 was being built 
1969 - 1970: QE2 Senior second engineer (?)
1970-1980 served on both Cunard Adventurer and later Cunard Countess and Princess as Chief Engineer.  During this period he also spent time in Rotterdam, Copenhagen and La Spezia during construction of these ships.
1980 -1984: Chief Engineer on QE2
1984: Retired
