Chief Engineer QE2 2000 to 2002

Brian Wattling was born in Brighton and educated at the De La Salle College before moving onto Brighton Technical College. After completing his Engineering Diploma, Brian decided to follow in family tradition and pursue a career at sea.

Navy Career:
He started his navy career with British & Commonwealth Shipping Group on cargo ships,

He later joined the Union Castle Line, passenger division where he remained until 1977.

He joined the Cunard Line as Junior Engineer on the Cunard Princess, working his way up to reach the most senior position -  Chief Engineer.

He served as Chief Engineer aboard: Cunard Countess, Crown Dynasty, Sea Goddess 1 and Queen Elizabeth 2.

In January 2003, Brian joined the site team at the shipyard of Chantiers de Atlantique at Saint Nazaire, France to represent Cunard Line during the construction of the Queen Mary 2. He was the first Chief Engineer of the new ship when she was handed over to Cunard on 22 December 2003. Brian Wattling along with Ronnie Keir took the QM2 from the shipyard on 23 December 2003 sailing into Southampton on 26 December 2003.
