Have also just noticed that the "Queen Elizabeth 2" lettering and Cunard lion are definitely still intact above where the Funnel Bar used to be (or maybe still is?). This ties in with all the branding being sold to Dubai with the option to keep it in place if desired (as Michael stated a while ago).
First sailed on QE2 in August 2003 aged 6 years old. Last sailed on QE2 in July 2008. Last saw the seagoing QE2 in person from the decks of QM2, on QE2's last Transatlantic crossing (Eastbound tandem) in October 2008. Visited QE2 in her new life, in Dubai, in January 2020 and August 2022.

She is looking better each time I visit her, there are people coming in day and night doing work on her! I would have taken more photos, but they are still very cautious and don't want people taking photos. I was approached by a guard when taking photos and had to delete some (luckily I could restore them), he was the same person saying that there is lots of work going on inside and that she would open on the 30th of March.

Nice to meet you, Liam! Glad to know there's at least one of us in Dubai watching out for QE2.

Not likely I suspect. However, I hope Port Vila is removed and Southampton is repainted in it's rightful place (is still there) like QM has official permission to have Liverpool on her stern in Long Beach - although this is probably a pipe dream.

Queen Mary is technical a building (so is the ss Rotterdam for that matter, the emergency siren also mentions please leave the building, not the ship), but if they keep QE2 registered as a vessel of some sort, could that not be a reason to keep Port Villa on the stern?

Yes, QM became a building when the propulsion plant was disconnected from the shafts if I remember correctly, partly for union reasons  ::) .

I would've thought QE2 is a building now in most if not all ways but I don't know the fine detail and their laws in the UAE. We could be more sure when we see her evacuation procedures (as you mention for SS Rotterdam) although QE in Fort Lauderdale had a building like evacuation procedure in place (signs reversed to direct people down and out through the ship instead of to muster stations and the lifeboats) and she was very much a living ship at that point.

Maybe there will be an official statement on the matter sometime in the future?

I am the photographer in question and sandymanv12 is my Instagram account. I am not sure you have permission to use this photograph? I have plenty of others I can share with the Forum, but that will be my choice.
Apologies if my comments in IG are not specifically accurate but I am not an officianado such as yourself.
Would you like me to share any more pictures?
Regards.

The comments from the photographer are interesting, they still don't want anyone close.  The entrance walkway looks good though!

Hello Lawrence

Welcome to the forum.  I have removed the two posts with your photo as requested.

We would be very interested in seeing more QE2 photos from Dubai, if you would like to post them on this topic.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

Welcome aboard Lawrence, sorry things are off to a bumpy start, but hope we can smooth things out.

I am the administrator and creator of this website and am extremely careful about seeking permissions when required to post photos or information on this site.  I am very diligent on this.

Your photos were not uploaded here, we only linked to them, using Instagram's built in copy-link feature. Instagram supports this, and your photos are public, its how you've got your Instagram account setup.   It s a good thing, because it drives traffic to your Instagram photos, and people will end up looking at and enjoying your other photos.

Its a great photo, thanks for taking it.
Passionate about QE2's service life for 40 years and creator of this website.  I have worked in IT for 28 years and created my personal QE2 website in 1994.
