They don't have a hotel website yet because they don't want to announce anything until they're ready.

They've made no official announcement about an opening date (or anything).

Correct me if lm wrong, Rob,BUT doesnt the photo on Facebook showing the chap with the folder, does anyone else think the logo on the folder looks like the QE2 story forum logo...

So here we are just starting February, opening day end of next month . You must marvel at how they operate
Everyone seems to know whats been going on and are self appointed experts, but dont, wont or cant say anything. It makes you wonder just how tough a gagging order they have placed on those in the know, or think they are in the know. and worse what the penalties are if those in the know break the gagging order.

Perhaps its asking a lot of the owners to say anything, so we can only sit back and await the gushing world wide media release, or are they going to reopen Hotel QE2 or whatever it is they are calling her with a small adverts in the local Dubai Press...

Members of the Jury, Do we find them Guilty or Not Guilty      ??? ???

I did spot that... But given that they could probably stop us using the QE2 name if they wanted to, I'd probably best not make a fuss...

In the boring world of today, yes your post is completely correct.

However.  In 2012, I was privy to a rather lovely plan to bring QE2 all the way back to Glasgow City Centre, berthed between the Riverside museum, and the SECC.  There is a spot that is perfect for her.  As a hotel, it would have been one of the best locations in the world (Glasgow is a major events/conference hub) and unlike Dubai, QE2 would have been the centre of attention here.   Significant dredging would be required, but as it was to be a 1-way trip, its not quite as impossible as it sounds.  Initial plans were in place, and a business case was put together.

Todays 'GUARDIAN'( just got round to reading)  :  Ian Jack, a local lad from the Clydebank area, covers a rather nice  piece, related to nostalgia (my take) & the V&A  exhibition.  in the Opinion section, headed,

My idea of beauty: liners built for speed & heavy seas.
taken out of context, but in the greater sense we all feel here , his closing paragraphs,

'The QE2, built to cross the Atlantic in winter,
was among the last of the big ships shaped by design
traditions rooted in the late 19th century.
I eventually made up for my neglect of the QE2's
launch by sailing on it to New York 30 years later, a
fine voyage I shall always count myself lucky to have
made. Today the ship lies uselessly in Dubai. How good
it would be to sail around the corner of a Scottish
sea loch and find it moored there as Scotland's last
great artifact, smoke rising from its funnel, ready  to
     welcome you onboard'.

I really couldn't agree more, if only.............
I'm sure this will be on line somewhere, in order for the greater context of the article..

Pete,

When I read the piece this morning, that last bit made me visualise her sitting here in Scotland.  One can dream.

I've been hearing that for a few weeks, still nothing concrete from them though.

Ahh here it its i had scoured all round to find details of QE2s reopening, it was Mid December, and what a surprise to find its now not until Spring...And people wonder why we have little faith in what they say and do.

No doubt its taking longer to replace the carpets and change the bulbs than was first estimated. Well thats all we know . everyone seems to be tied up and bound and gagged in what they cannot say or do.

Interesting re the wording , wasnt the Cunard name erased from the ondeck wooden benches, and the name under the bridge.
I did hear on my holiday Cunard had to buy back various items from QE2 , but as we know we shouldnt put to much trust on what is said .
Anyway catching up on here might take some time, so excuse me if lm a bit out of touch....
I imagine the conversion has entailed far more than just minor cosmetic work. Transforming an ocean-going vessel into a fully functioning hotel comes with significant challenges and hurdles; It took 4 years for Long Beach to successfully outfit Queen Mary into a similar facility and they weren't faced with a global depression and various work halting changes to an already vague plan. I'd honestly rather them take their time with QE2 rather than have the project be butchered and rushed, we've seen what happens when appropriate care isn't taken. On the subject of the Cunard logos, it seems they are licensed to use them under certain circumstances on the ship, what those stipulations are is unclear and will likely remain so until the day her doors are finally open.

First it was December, Then March, then the second Quarter now its September .. beats me way they dont just wait till 21st November and make it ten years , then again wasnt it after ten years "they" could do with QE2 what they like..

Makes you wonder given the supposed secrecy around this project  that the soft opening will be shrouded in even more secrecy

Those of us holding our breaths, relax, its a false alarm ???  some might say another false alarm, trouble is when there are so many false alarms, the very real one could well be missed.

Myles, maybe the best approach is just to wait and see.

We can see that there is something happening, something that would not be happening if the intention was to scrap QE2.

We have waited this long, a few months more will make very little difference. And I doubt that many of us have their fingers on the starter button in order to reserve a room / a conference / a party as soon as bookings are accepted.

Meanwhile, we have plenty of other topics to keep us occupied -- this Forum is never a dull place!

Calm down! Let's try not to jump the gun. It will happen either way. Hopefully

Its a discussion forum, We cant all be singing from the same Hymn sheet, perhaps we are but some are slightly off tune.
As is We dont all sing the glowing praise of if its Cunard its got to be wonderful.
And its QE2....We are all fans of her.
As to what her new incarnation in Dubai under whoever owns her, with whatever regard is being done to her. Indeed time will tell.... But what little we know so far is ..well...
