« on: Oct 27, 2017, 11:04 PM »
Sadly I must advise our shipmate, Ebro, has crost the bar.

He passed peacefully on 3rd September 2017.

Sorry to hear that, Ebro was a real character with a wicked sense of humour and handlebar moustache. He had me in fits of laughter regularly with his sophisticated Kenneth Williams/Gyles Brandreth bearing. 'Animal Vegetable or mineral - Anona Winn'  RIP, Ebro who made that abbreviation fashionable 30 years before the likes of J-Lo.

Eric & the monkey? Pray tell dear boy, as Eric himself might have said.

So sorry to hear this sad news. When I was Asst. Officers Steward, I knew he was a true gentleman and a character. He will be missed by us all.

This is from Eric himself, he did not say which ship it was or what other Officers were involved.
The ship arrived in Mombassa and a group of Hotel Officers went ashore to sightsee as you can imagine booze became involved as none of them were working later.
They were at a bar and a peddler, with a monkey came around selling shrunken heads which were held up for display by the monkey. Nobody was interested in the shrunken heads, but, ALL were interested in the monkey! Money was offered and to cut a long story short, Eric ended up eith the monkey and as a bonus, a wooden and wire netting cage.
Everything was fine for a few days, but one day Eric didn't secure the cage door properly, or the monkey figured it out. Eric came back to his cabin that had been almost totally destroyed by the monkey including most of Erics tailor made uniforms.
At the next port, the monkey was gone!

Entirely plausible for Eric bless 'im. Reminds one of the escaped Boa Constrictor that ended up in the Tables of the World restaurant, and Clive Meek thinking they were referring to a 'Bahco Shifter'.

Or the photographers who went ashore in Dakar and, in their cups, bought a parrot in a cage. Shades of Monty Python, they later found a switch had been made and it was a polly-gone.

Does anyone remember Eric Mason ?
