My sister very much enjoyed the conference, and has posted an excellent write-up on her website about it.

Once I get home I plan to do a proper write up of the event with some of the photos we took, will post it here when it is complete.

Stephen Payne's thoughts on the conference

The conception and entry into service of Queen Elizabeth 2 was nothing short of a miracle. Within a very short time, even before the oil crisis of the early 1970's, the ship was losing money. For the ship to have weathered all these storms and subsequently have a spectacularly successful career was another miracle. But QE2 achieved all of this and more cementing her place as Britain's favourite passenger liner. How appropriate for the ship's 50 anniversary of her launch to be celebrated by a gathering of past crew, past passengers and enthusiasts.

The organisers of the 50th anniversary event must be congratulated for mounting a superb event, steeped in nostalgia and pride which certainly did the ship proud and which will continue to evoke memories of the miracle that was, and is, QE2. To be sure, the story isn't over yet!

The run up to it was so very long, then the event was short and totally fantastic.  As i said in my my piece, I've watched as June, John, Lynda and Gavin put all this together, while assisting when required, so to watch it all come off so smoothly made me very happy for them!

I met so many lovely people, some for the first time, some for the first time in ages, and an alarming number knew who i was before i knew who they were!  I was a bit shocked when it all came to an end, i felt very flat and exhausted on Sunday, but I'll have such happy memories of the event.

We all did something very important, i think.

I tried to leave a comment on the blog but was unable to do so. Great summary of a great day (was able to attend the Conference only). I met Jenny as we were all leaving and we thought we recognised one another but couldn't remember from where. She introduced herself as the sister of Rob who started the website. Please pass on my thanks for the report.

Well then,
what can one say, all that work, preparation, planning were evident in that place and on that day in history, I feel myself so lucky to have been  yet again  a passenger in the Queen Elizabeth 2 story.              Thanks & superlatives seem so inadequate to our organising committee & their family support, but, that is  all we can offer them.
Thank you  it really is appreciated, one & all , you certainly did her proud.     When it comes to the emotional side of things we  had a roller coaster of a ride, celebrating with letters from Buckingham palace one minute along with a glass of fizz  to lump in throat & tears in the eyes watching the video of her entering Dubai with the now  to be expected 'Time to say goodbye' sound track  it always gets me, & the emotion in that room at the end of said video  was something to behold.
The boat trip was also  rather special  arriving at her birth place was eerie, so many memories & the history hanging heavy around the place (to me at least) left a feeling of meloncholy  & what has gone forever, their work did them proud,   oh for a bit of time travel.
This was a truely magnificent event, a fitting 50th celebration to the greatest  liner ever, long may she dumbfound the bean counters.
   Thanks  again so much, Pete..
