Incorrect Daily express article about QE2
« on: Sep 17, 2017, 05:11 AM »
This "newspaper" ran an article yesterday quoting me.

I have not spoken to them and i 100% disagree with it.

It appears to be a re hash of a years old sensationalist and incorrect piece.  If i ever spoke to them, it's many years ago.

Link?

I've deliberately not included it. It's garbage and i don't want to send them more advertising revenue!

Have you made a complaint to them or the Independent Press Standards Organisation?

This sounds like something more worthy of a "letter before action" on the grounds of misrepresentation rather than a mere complaint to the toothless watchdog.

I'll try that.  Its totally garbage.  Ever heard of Commodore Ron Watkins?  I'm going to get people saying things about me on other Facebook groups, and I haven't even said anything!  Also, I've been building a relationship with people in Dubai that this could set back.  Very, very frustrating.

I've now submitted an official complaint.

Could that be Ron's 'pseudonym'?

More likely to be 'sloppy journalism' as my PR daughter calls it, she's the PR Manager for Trinity Mirror Group so has plenty of experience of 'sloppy journalism'!

Hi!

I need your help.

I filed a complaint with the express about the fact that the article sounds like i just spoke to them, and gave them these quotes, but I didn't.  This complaint was filed officially though IPSO.

They have come back and said the information is publically available on our site and therefore they're free to use and quote anyone in their newspaper.

But I can't find the quotes.  Can you?  If I did say them, I need to be able to tell them how long ago it was, which will mean my case will get upheld.

I wouldn't mind if it said that ..."I wrote on the forum in 2012" but it doesn't.  If you read it, don't you assume I spoke to them?

Theres another in the Mail, same problem. 2 utter garbage newspapers that I can't believe anyone buys (or believes) but I've got a point of principle here,

Try a Google search for the particular phrases in question and search both with and without "qe2 forum" and "qe2 story" and other permutations; quite often a Google search is more effective than a search using a forum search bar... indeed, one railway forum I am in actually recommends to the members to search via Google rather than the forum's own search function.

If all possible search terms don't find anything, then you'll know they are making it up.

What they might have done is mashed parts of different statements together - in my eyes, that would be misrepresentation if that's what they've done.
