Well well... I wonder what happens if you follow those signs... could Dubai visitors get any closer to QE2 now?

Is that the Cunard QE2 font?

Would it not be nice of QE2's owners to take the opportunity of the 50th anniversary of QE2's launch to announce the details of her new life?  Not saying it would be good news to all but it would be nice to lift the veil of secrecy.

I think the font is slightly different but nevertheless quite fitting (if you're talking about the font used in the old brochures etc.?).

They might just do that, there's still some time...but then again they might not.

Fascinating development, thanks for the photo Louis.

The last photos I've seen still show all doors and windows open, which implies no Aircon, which means I'll be astounded if she opens any time soon.  Once i see lots of lights on on board, and the doors shut, I'll assume the end is in sight.

Ever since Oceanic were offered QE2 for sale ten years after QE2 was to be moved to China as part of their partnership with Dubai it was clear Dubai no-longer want the ship.
I think QE2 is being preped for sale the work on board to convert a few cabins to hotel suites to show the potential, clearing the boat deck to give flexibility to potential buyers plans, the sign outside to help sell the dream.

Only if you're a potential buyer

Like Rob I'll believe it when I see a listing on Trivago

A couple of restaurants has opened in the new marina and within the Port Rashid you can now get in without pass permission you get within about 200 meters of QE2 far but enough to take photos

As for a potential buyer no chance QE2 is not for sale

Fascinating development, thanks for the photo Louis.

I feel this is the first sign that something is happening to indicate that the ship will be used rather than just messed about before being scrapped.

It indeed makes the heart skip a beat to see the QE2 sign.  I so hope this is a sign (no pun intended) of better things forthcoming for our beloved ship !   :) :)

In the past, "Dubai" has officially announced a variety of things, including holding large official expensive announcement events.  None have come to anything, despite all efforts.

This sign is a sign of something, to be sure, but we must not not get too carried away.  The task of opening QE2 as a hotel is a monumental one and they're not there yet.  As I said, I won't believe much until I start to see her twinkling with a thousand lights at night, and with her various shell openings closed.

We do all, I think, wish them good luck.  Even those of us who wish she'd just been quietly scrapped, would surely rather she did well than fail?  So fingers crossed for them, and lets continue to keep our aching fingers crossed for her, after 9 years of doing so...
