I worked hard with the National on getting accurate reporting about QE2 for the 50th anniversary.  I had a few long phonecalls with the reporter, and he drove to Dubai from Abu Dhabi on my encouragement.  I also tried to connect him with Louis, although I don't know if they did or not.

The pieces went live at exactly the same moment as I joined everyone in the bar at Crowne Plaza on Thursday afternoon, and also simultaneously with having some long calls with the Sun (who in the end ran a disappointingly short piece).

Would I have written the articles like he's done?  No.  Are they more accurate (less wrong) than they would have been?  Yes.

Trouble is, when you deal with the press, what you say isnt always printed the way you said it.

That is why I gave up on any interviews for papers, magazines etc. Even quoting something which I have said directly was a problem.

Well ultimately if absolutely nobody speaks to them and they can't get any information, they won't run any story.  Alternatively they run a story that is complete nonsense.  I think its best to speak to them and make the story "less bad" than it might have been.  Sometimes the story is actually good.  I think it is good for QE2, to keep attention and the spotlight on her.

I agree with you on that part, I have had to much bad experience now with them sadly that I don't do any for the major papers anymore. Two weeks ago I was interviewed for a specialist magazine, they actually send the article before publishing, which was a surprise.

It is true that the press hardly ever print anything the way it is told to them, but in the end, it is better that our QE2 get coverage than not at all.   :)

I think I might have seen this a while back, but didn't look too much into it. One thing I did notice was that there were a couple errors in the article (ex: The ship was sold in 2007, not 1997)
