Delighted that Michael Gallagher's new book, "The Building of Queen Elizabeth 2 - the world's most famous ship" is due for release from 20/21 August.  Michael Gallagher, has a wealth of knowledge about the history of Cunard and QE2, knowledge that is certain to have been used writing this book.

It is available to pre-order from Ferry Publications from their website: www.ferrypubs.co.uk, or telephone 01624 898446, email Nicola@lilypublications.co.uk

Cost: £24.50

Publisher information:
Much has been written about Queen Elizabeth 2 – and deservedly so as her story is an incredible one that has established her place in maritime history. The Building of Queen Elizabeth 2 tells not only the fascinating story in detail of the construction of this magnificent ship and the struggle by both ship owner and ship yard to get her into service but also the story of the aborted Q3 project that led to QE2 and the debate of whether she should have been a three-class or a two-class ship. This book tells the complete story with a wealth of new information and unseen images.

I'm very, very excited about this!

QE2 had been waiting alongside in Dubai for nearly 12 years.  Please restore her Lifeboats and Tenders to where they truly belong - she looks naked without them - please spare her this ignominy.

When she was built, QE2 was definitely a 'class orientated' ship!

Apart from the different staircases leading to different 'class' accommodation, the cabins were also 'class orientated' and not in the way you might think!

When two of my children were booked to travel i went to see which cabin they had been allocated and found they were on 4 Deck in what the Chief Housekeeper termed a 'servant's cabin'! When asked why it was termed so she explained thus.

This particular cabin was in a side corridor which was off the main port corridor. It had an outer door, then just inside this door was a small cabin on the left that had two bunks beds and a small bathroom. Off this cabin was a door into a larger cabin at the end of the side corridor on the aft side and on the fwd side a much larger cabin. The original idea of these set of 3 cabins was as follows. The main, large cabin was for the 'master & mistress of the house'. The smaller cabin was for their children, while the very small cabin, with connecting door to the children's cabin, was for 2 travelling servants, the connecting door allowing access to the children cabin should it be needed. The whole suite of cabins could be isolated by closing the outer door, thus making it a self contained family area.

I don't know if it was ever used as a 'servant's cabin' but it is an interesting bit of QE2 history that is possibly unknown to most people.

Were some of QE2s single cabins not designed in the same way that they were next to a larger cabin with a outer door which could be closed off , Given added privacy to both cabins.

One of the Suites on the Queen Mary (in Long Beach) , had a designated maids cabin built into the main suite. Now that was something else !
