Waverley on the Clyde - August 2017
« on: Aug 09, 2017, 07:40 PM »
Hi,

I am CONSIDERING making another trip on the Clyde on the Waverley this Sunday, and wondered if anyone else was going to be aboard?

Hi Rob,

Obviously that date has come and gone - I am going to be on board from Greenock to Lochranza on Sunday 27th August - its the last Sunday of her Clyde season plus Lochranza is a great wee Sunday destination!

Thanks, that does sound good!  How many stag and hens do you think there'll be...?!

Waverley has had an accident and cruises this weekend are cancelled.

Poor old Waverley - and poor old me!  Try as I might, I can't get aboard her this year!

The Waverley operation is immensely frustrating to watch.

Every Saturday in Glasgow in Summer, they allow hoardes of Hen Parties and Stag parties aboard - these people drink their own booze so they're not even boosting the profits for the ship, and ruin the experience for others.   I've experienced this every time I've travelled on a Saturday and if you look on Trip Advisor you'll see many others have too.

Also, when something does go wrong, they don't handle it at all well.  UPDATE YOUR FACEBOOK PAGE - how hard is that to do?  Its now 24 hours since the accident, but their page is still not updated even to advise of the cancellations.  Does anyone with anything to do with the management of the ship maybe have a SMARTPHONE?  Again, look at TripAdvisor for the problems this causes.

The food also is a constant let down - inexcusable.  Keep it simple, but keep it good.  Its not hard.

Ugh. I don't see why those people are allowed on. Ruins the experience and the fun. Ridiculous. It's also not that hard to provide updates. Seems like someone is slacking off. I'd be upset to find that my trip I scheduled, bought tickets, etc is canceled. What do they serve? How does it look and does it look bad? Would Gordon Ramsay be upset?  ;)

Oh dear, yes Gordon Ramsey would be cursing like hell.
Rob be careful you may be banned from sailing aboard Waverley for life if you criticise the management of Waverley Excursions.
A friend of mine and life long supporter of Waverley was removed from the ship and prevented from boarding again simply for speaking his mind.

Oh dear!  I've sent them a Facebook message asking why I earth the page hasn't been updated. Honestly it would take them two minutes, it's inexcusable.

My only direct experience of Waverley was a sailing from Southend up the Thames. 1st of October and a brilliant calm sunny day. No stags or hens etc. The food was a bit British Rail but seemed to fit the period atmosphere. We had a great day.

However even a brief glance on Facebook shows that all is not well commercially. All the criticisms made by Rob an more are plain to see. They seem to be good at keeping a fabulous historical artefact going despite all modern rules and regulations put there as obstacles. Medway Queen after all appear to have given up on running any sort of operation despite having what amounts to a new ship due to regs etc. Perhaps they should look at what cruise lines are doing with passengers own alcohol. If they are actually going to have the stags & hens surely they should not be bringing their own booze.

Sadly Balmoral also seems to have inherited the same management style along with the ship.Lots of complaints there this year and very little information.

So that's me banned as well!

Nice pics - looks like one of the Meadowside flats - across the river from BAE Govan?

Love the angle on Waverley!

Cheers for posting

Just scanning through this thread after looking at Dellboy's great photos.

I was involved with the ship for the best part of 10 years. Nothing changes - nothing moves on. They have a great asset in the ship and fail to capitalise on it time after time.
The arrogance of senior management in Waverley Excursions beggars belief - that's why I "jumped off" as it were!

Its such as shame as shes a beautiful old boat with a great history!
