We took dogs on the World Cruise too, the stipulation being that the dog had to board and disembark (!) at the same port - usually Ft.Lauderdale - and not leave the ship at any wayports. Also the pax had to sponsor the kennel maid. Another piece of Kennel folklore was that if you had a new cadet join the ship you could leave them a note, 'Can you call 425, Mr Barker has a message for you.'  Ring-Ring 'Hello, Kennels' 'Can I speak to Mr Barker please?' - Bit like the 'Long stand' or being sent ashore at Panama to get carrots for the mules.

We recently ran a photo competition on the theme of QE2 and animals. Katharina Ernst, who had chosen the theme, was hoping to see several photos of animals travelling in the QE2 kennels or being walked on the doggy deck. No such photos emerged, and the competition winners all had animals outside QE2. Here is the collection of photos on the topic :

I wonder, Willum and others, whether anyone ever took photos of the QE2 animal passengers?

A fond memory of QE2 was walking along the deck in mid-Atlantic and hearing a dog barking. I looked up to see a friendly furry face looking back at me from the Doggy deck.
During the Panama canal transit on the 1990 world cruise the officers had a fantastic BBQ up there so I got to see the famous lamp post first hand.
Now there is a question...is it still there? :D

This was how they looked in 1987.
From the moment you first glimpsed the Queen,
you just knew you were in for a very special time ahead.!
