.......Sleeping Beauty no more, time to wake up.

How true Rob.....

When Rob produced the DVD of his visit to Dubai in 2011 I was delighted when he asked if he could include my poem "Sleeping Beauty of the Seven Seas" in the insert.  To a certain extent a Prince has set her free and even though she will not "come back to me" I look forward to visiting QE2 Hotel.
I was proud to be involved with planning QE2's 50 year conference in September 2017 in Clydebank

I do wonder how many of those who stridently believed she should be scrapped no matter what (including a certain barman), might have changed their minds...

I was probably one of these too. Perhaps not "no matter what", but more along the lines of what Thomas said here :

In my opinion scrapping would've been more dignified than the original Dubai owner's 2009 plans to mess her around. Also if she'd languished for years in the cold layup (along the lines of SS US) for her dignity and to put her out of her misery I would've preferred scrapping if her future was bleak. Even a passionate fan and former passenger has their own, personal limits with their favourite ship!

I am very glad that she has a new life now, new staff, new visitors, new scenery around her, and perhaps even new love lavished on her. She remains alive in a different way, she attracts new fans and is there for everyone to see and visit. But like CasinoChris, I am not sure that I want to be part of that new life. Unlike SS Rotterdam, I knew her before this new life started. I wish her well, and all those who look after her and enjoy her, long may her lumb reek (though sadly, not literally)...!

As Louis, said, it may be time to say cheerio... Though not to this Forum, where we remember QE2 in a different life, becoming more and more a part of history, a part of our more distant memories. And of course, should there ever be a QE2Story reunion on board, count on me to try and be there!
